I thought I would share a story of my first encounter with AIDS.

In 1995, I graduated college and went to work for a bank in midtown Atlanta.  Around the 2nd week I worked at the bank, an older woman came up to the teller counter and said she needed to close an account.  I referred her to our branch manager and the manager asked me to sit in since I was training to handle tasks besides being a teller.

The manager asked the woman how she could help her and the older woman said that she needed to close her son's account.  Following protocol, the manager asked if she was on the account and asked why she was closing the account.

The woman started crying uncontrollably and began telling us a story about her son, her "baby", who had died of AIDS and she was his only living relative.  She talked about his life and what a wonderful person he had been and she coudn't believe she had to bury her son.

The manager started to cry, too and I have to admit this was the most heart-wrenching moment I have ever witnessed, even to this day.

Sometimes we forget that when someone passes away, they leave behind that a person with a broken heart and an emptiness that will never be filled.

AIDS has broken hearts and left a lot of holes in people's families.

I hope that a cure is found soon for this horrible diease because I never want to see another mother with a heart broken like that again.

Have you ever lost a loved one or a friend to this disease?

Tell us about that person and what made them special.

Why doesn't the ATM want my card?

Summary:  Over the past few weeks I've noticed a change to the ATM I visit on West Broad in front of Five Guys. It's a Bank of America ATM and the main reason I like it is because there is only a $2 fee to use it.   Over the past few weeks I've noticed a change to the ATM I visit on West Broad in front of Five Guys. It's a Bank of America ATM and the main reason I like it is because there is only a $2 fee to use it. The last few times I visited the ATM, I put my card in the slot and the ATM immediatley gave me the card back.  I was a little alarmed at first and tried to put the card back in but the screen prompted me to input my PIN number instead. I was able to complete my transaction but it threw me out of my comfort zone. read more
