Welcome to the World Baby Hashtag?

November 28, 2012

When I hear a newborn baby's name, I think either one of two things:

That's cute.

OR

Mom and Dad, what drugs were you on when you named this child?

A newborn baby girl born last night was named Hashtag Jameson. No, it's not a joke. Her first name is really Hashtag.

If you would like to read more about Baby Hashtag, click here.

The social network, Twitter, is famous for using the symbol, '#,' as a signature feature on the site and calling it "hashtag."

Maybe the name stems from the parents' love for Twitter, but the mother posted a picture of the newborn on Facebook with the subject line, "Hashtag Jameson was born at 10 o'clock last nite. She weys 8pounds and i luv her so much!!!!!!"

From the mother's spelling skills, I can no longer be suprised by the baby's name.

All we need now is a little baby @ or an adorable baby Tumblr.

How do you feel about Hashtag's name?

What's the dumbest baby name you've ever heard?

Rep. Regina Quick pulls no punches on Chamber scorecard

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

UPDATED: Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.   Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. read more
