Was Identity Thief that bad?

February 11, 2013

The new movie Identity Thief, starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, came to theaters on Friday and made at least one critic unhappy.

Rex Reed, a writer for the New York Observer, wrote a short review of the movie in which he makes clear how much he disliked the film. What especially made readers upset was how much he attacked McCarthy about her weight, describing her as "tractor-sized" and a "female hippo."

"Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) is a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success," Reed summed up at the end of his review.

According to Examiner, Paul Feig, the director of Bridesmaids, had a few choice words for Reed via his Twitter account.

Do you plan on seeing Identity Thief after reading Reed's review?

Do you think Reed was over the line with insulting Melissa McCarthy?
