Imagine the records he could break if he came back for one more.

Your residential burglar alarm falsely activates in the middle of the night because your back door wasn't secured and blew open from wind (or whatever). Responding cops find the open door and enter your residence to "clear" it. You hear the cops in your house and come downstairs with your pistol and shoot the burglar/cop.
Or:
A bank's silent holdup alarm activates (falsely again) and responding cops get in a wreck while responding to a false alarm. Or the cop gets in a wreck with your daughter and kills her.
posted @ Thursday, December 27, 2012 - 15:29I love when idiots make bold statements about "making a hero" out of a cop. This is gold for law enforcement civil liability purposes. The next time a cop has to fight with Hancock and knocks his teeth out, we have documented proof of his violence toward LEOs

posted @ Friday, December 21, 2012 - 15:51We can't do a general sweep of the country and remove all guns in order to create a sterile, airport-like environment. That being the case, making guns illegal will not keep the bad guys from getting them. Look at cocaine and meth--both are illegal yet Ken Mauldin has the opportunity to plea down those cases everyday.
What about blunt objects? Or chocolate cake? Both of these kill people--probably more than guns do.

posted @ Sunday, November 4, 2012 - 19:58
fmrclarketchr - What is "intent to sale?" Is that just the Southern pronunciation?
Pretty much any time you have separate quantities packaged separately you're looking at "intent to sale." Had the entire quantity been in one sac (if it was less than 1 ounce, of course) you'd be dealing with just misdemeanor possession of marijuana. I'm sure Ken Mauldin will plead the felony down to running a stop sign anyway so Nelms really has nothing to worry about.

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.
