I know where they could easily find some extra cash; I think our city manager and attorney are expecting larger W-2s this year

@Dawgbreath:

Never said it did. Suspended licenses fall under 40-5-121.

An "instructional permit" is not a driver's license--the courts have been very clear on this.

Have you seen Al lately? I saw him at LaGuardia Tuesday--he's emaciated! What happened to the rotund dope dealer we all loved to hate?

I think the problem lies in the lack of regulation of college campuses. These school shootings would stop if we turned all of our schools in to section 8 housing. Then the headline would read "Business as Usual at Santa Monica Bluffs Community."

The problem is when they get to court for the subsequent criminal trespass charge after returning. Our lib judges reduce the criminal trespass to "failure to stop at red light" then let them out. Waste of time

So are you guys gonna kiss or not? You're both about as passive aggressive as the ppl that hide behind Facebook and talk about how "you know who" scorned them. I'm also a bada$$ when I hide behind my laptop

You can be taken to jail for anything for which you've been given a citation. When you sign a citation on the side of the road you're essentially "bonding" yourself out--with your signature.

Same code that locks up illegal immigrants with no tiennes licencia

@klopfelter:

Your residential burglar alarm falsely activates in the middle of the night because your back door wasn't secured and blew open from wind (or whatever). Responding cops find the open door and enter your residence to "clear" it. You hear the cops in your house and come downstairs with your pistol and shoot the burglar/cop.

Or:

A bank's silent holdup alarm activates (falsely again) and responding cops get in a wreck while responding to a false alarm. Or the cop gets in a wreck with your daughter and kills her.

I love when idiots make bold statements about "making a hero" out of a cop. This is gold for law enforcement civil liability purposes. The next time a cop has to fight with Hancock and knocks his teeth out, we have documented proof of his violence toward LEOs

We can't do a general sweep of the country and remove all guns in order to create a sterile, airport-like environment. That being the case, making guns illegal will not keep the bad guys from getting them. Look at cocaine and meth--both are illegal yet Ken Mauldin has the opportunity to plea down those cases everyday.

What about blunt objects? Or chocolate cake? Both of these kill people--probably more than guns do.

Mauldin will take care of this one for us. Probation will definitely do the trick

Joe Johnson are you telling me that you still don't know your police patrol zones yet? That is on the EAST side of Athens. Just saying. You're still awesome

Mauldin will plead it down to "failure to signal when changing lanes" to avoid looking like a meanie

Yikes. Not good. Not good at all. In what quarter did this happen? My regional CBS coverage was spotty due to Bloomberg hurricane Sandy press conferences. Never leave the south.

I've always thought 21 (though established by the state of GA) was mighty young for a P.O.S.T. certified officer/deputy. I hope this kid was a jailer and not on the road.

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

    Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself. No cartoons on racism

    As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
