Oregon bans Native American mascots in schools

This some heap bad medicine: who knew cartoon mascot figures could be such powerful oppressors. Native Americans prove to White Man that they be just as thin-skinned.

Occupiers will fight back against 'urban camping' law

The Occupissoirs will try to confuse the right of assembly & free speech with their imagined right of camping. It's all about appropriate use: want to protest? Fine...protest. That doesn't give you the privilege of turning government real estate into a campground.

The evolution of the breakup

Why can't humans get divorced via smartphone? Why don't human ex-wives ever go away when you're done with them? Why can't we all just get along?

Is Death Bad for You?

Dying isn't as unhealthy as sick living, but it doesn't matter whether it's good for you: the question is whether your death is good for me.

It's not 'hijinks,' it's bullying

"I had been a coward, and I wanted them to try to do better." So now you're a grown-up crybaby who wants to bully bullying out of existence? Where will it all end: shooting the finger gets you a year behind bars? There is a perennial message being sent by this socialization process--conform. Though it may not seem like it to the recipient of the target, these are highly valuable social dynamics which are being enforced, and you need to remember that the tail doesn't wag the dog.

First American arrested with help from drone

'Swamp People' cast member Mitchell Guist dies

Athenians who consider themselves "intellectuals" could learn more life skills by watching Swamp People and Larry the Cable Guy than by reading the Flagpole, that is, if they were capable of learning. Unfortunately, most of them can spout off more gibberish from Noam Chomsky than they can about building a shelter, a campfire or skinning a squirrel. There's a reason why they're constantly whining about how the government needs to provide for them.

Conversation enriches museum experience

How about an Artful Conversation about the shifty-eyed armed docents who stalk young, nubile children in the company of their parents and then verbally abuse the complainants online in a defensive, strident tone?

To the extent that there is any measure of vindictiveness at work here, it certainly confirms the wisdom of protecting anonymous commenting.

Still some distance to go in race relations

It's said that most healthy males think about sex an average of once every five seconds, but I firmly believe that liberal males think about race every three.

Why doesn't the ATM want my card?

Summary:  Over the past few weeks I've noticed a change to the ATM I visit on West Broad in front of Five Guys. It's a Bank of America ATM and the main reason I like it is because there is only a $2 fee to use it.   Over the past few weeks I've noticed a change to the ATM I visit on West Broad in front of Five Guys. It's a Bank of America ATM and the main reason I like it is because there is only a $2 fee to use it. The last few times I visited the ATM, I put my card in the slot and the ATM immediatley gave me the card back.  I was a little alarmed at first and tried to put the card back in but the screen prompted me to input my PIN number instead. I was able to complete my transaction but it threw me out of my comfort zone. read more
