Gallant: Mixed feelings about the mixture on compilation

Ha! Pretty generic and predictable response/question. Your defensive nature could be that you are somehow involved in this organization? And my band didn't get "picked" this year because we didn't submit this year, but who knows, maybe we have been on it before? I guess you will never know. But all of that has nothing to do with the fact that there are repeat artists on the CD every year who just happen to be on the label that the compilation is put out on. Seems a little unethical and shameless. If that is the contribution the organization wants to be umbrella'd under in this industry, then just like the scummy lead singer who takes advantage of the passed out girl at the party, by all means, be that entity......knock yourself out Wink

Hard to do in a Nepotistic Music Community, wasn't that my point? Stepping up to the plate would have to involve the clique making decisions to open up their community to outsiders and not inbreeding our arts into irrelevance.

I obviously meant "Americana" not "American". I was simply answering the question posed by the author of the article..."why so much americana". I don't see what that has to do with buying local. Last time I checked, there are plenty of bands from different genres in this town. Automatically responding with some "buy local" defense is a weak approach that reminds me of Bush era Neo-Cons touting their brand of "freedom" and "war on terrorists" to any agenda they did not agree with.

Gallant: Mixed feelings about the mixture on compilation

The Athfest CD and Athfest itself (including the Flagpole Music Awards) are a fine example of the nepotism in the music industry in Athens. The Athfest CD is basically the same group of people every year because either the artists on the CD are on the label that puts out the CD (ghost meat records), or happens to be buddies with the label owner. This crooked approach to Athfest or it's CD or even local music coverage from the weekly music paper has truly stunted the growth of this towns music scene. This CD is a fine example, just look at who's on it and you can find a couple of degrees of separations from each band. Scandalous. We have to take the album for what it is.....a promotional vehicle. Every year we have more and more "Americana" on the athfest CD because GhostMeat Records is an american label, just to simply comment on your statement Andre.

How is it that when a police officer breaks the law the action is no work but full pay? Nice punishment. Seems like us taxpayers shouldn't be paying for this alleged criminal to sit at home and do nothing. I have nothing against police officers, but that is a real bad example to set for the children of out community. Some could even suggest that is being rewarded for dong bad deeds.

@STATE OF MINE: If you really need to know the number is around 7 that I can claim. And that was in service to your freedom of choice (including freedom to have an abortion). God bless this wonderful country that I am proud to serve.

Abortion bill another consequence of McKillip's party switch

@Alethia: I'm not suggesting that abortion is a good form of population control, not having babies is of course a successful method by the very definition of population control. What a silly question to pose. As far as animal rights go, I am not dumb enough to be baited into such a manipulative question in a red state like Georgia (yee haw). Can animals feel pain, yes. Do many animals have cognition and the ability to solve problems, of course. Talking to a die hard Christian about wether or not animals have a soul is pointless. Wait: do you think animals have souls?

@RightWingExtremist: Fair enough. I AM really sorry I offended you with my comments of redneck and hillbilly. I am not originally a red stater and have always been baffled by the point of view brought to the table by people who so feverishly mix their views of church and state and have always found it extremely un-American. I guess the majority of the population agrees with me since we elected an official to the white house who does not rely on his religious beliefs to lead the most wonderful country on this planet. I am offering a sincere apology for stooping down to a level based on emotion and frustration. Please accept this apology so we can continue to learn from each other. I would really like to know your answer to my original question. I am interested in learning how the mind of someone I disagree works. I am sorry for using immature statements as a vehicle for my frustrations. So what do you think?

@classified: Saying they are babies is an opinion and not a scientific FACT. The fetus is a part of the mother. It's called nature. Look it up. And yes it is considered healthcare. Is this a concept that is over the head of most mouth-breathers, probably. Am I going to change your opinion, probably not.

@alethia: That's twisting so many ideas and words to fit your own ideaology (or Bachmans or Reagans or whoever you are plagiarizing). You truly believe a 12 week fetus is as human as a 4 year old? If so, then I guess talking to you would be like trying to clap with one hand. Adios!

Hey buddy (RwE), you still didn't give any rational reason to the question I asked. And as far as I can tell, you are too young and dumb to come up with your own ideas and are just spewing little conservative propaganda. Answer the question I posed and then I will take you as seriously as anyone could take someone who considers themselves an extremist (which to meeans you are void of any rational thought, diplomacy, or reason). Answer the question about anti big government/government control of women's rights. And also let me guess, you're a man, right?

Why do Christian republicans ask for limited government in one breath and extremely invasive government in the next breath? It seems extremely hypocritical. Make up your minds......do you want gov't involved with healthcare or not? Very indicitive of the way the religion is practiced....follow the rules that suit you and make excuses for the rules that don't suit you. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Why doesn't the ATM want my card?

Summary:  Over the past few weeks I've noticed a change to the ATM I visit on West Broad in front of Five Guys. It's a Bank of America ATM and the main reason I like it is because there is only a $2 fee to use it.   Over the past few weeks I've noticed a change to the ATM I visit on West Broad in front of Five Guys. It's a Bank of America ATM and the main reason I like it is because there is only a $2 fee to use it. The last few times I visited the ATM, I put my card in the slot and the ATM immediatley gave me the card back.  I was a little alarmed at first and tried to put the card back in but the screen prompted me to input my PIN number instead. I was able to complete my transaction but it threw me out of my comfort zone. read more
