And he could very well be wrong. So why bother?
If you haven't visited a Clarke County school and experienced what goes on there, you really have no business speculating on what might be wrong.
And you certainly have no business defending those who can only speculate...

Some people understand that "giving back" is a powerful motive, and can be the right thing to do.
You are clearly not one of those people.

Really? You need to get out more. Hunting, or preventing yourself from being hunted...both good uses for a pistol.
However, you originally said :
E.J. - ...a gun's only purpose is to kill people.
You may have been talking about pistols at the time, but you need to be specific. And, of course, pistols have multiple uses, same as rifles. It's even an Olympic event!
Not much target shooting with a bazooka, though. So I can give you that one...

Nope.
It's designed to push a projectile through the air efficiently and swiftly. What you do with that projectile is up to you - same as a slingshot or a blowgun - both of which can be equally fatal if the projectile is used against you. Or, any of those can be used to feed your family, or protect them against predators.

How will we pay for them next year? With money left over from this year?
Between this and the parking issue, in which Mr. Reddish wants to get permission to rule over downtown parking as he sees fit, I wonder why we have a Mayor and Commission at all....

Apparently the top floor.
Clarke County's own web site suggests you call 911 for "Criminal or Potential Criminal Activity". Probation violation is a crime, though all it will get you is more probation.

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.
