I am proud of you, as I know your family is. Keep up the good work, I think you have found a calling for your life....
posted @ Monday, March 25, 2013 - 09:57The Oconee Co SO processed 220 applicants for a Georgia Weapons Carry License in January, up from 120 in December, and up from a mere 30 in September 2012
Obtaining a GWCL exempts you from the NICS check at the counter of the Federal Firearms Licensed Dealer. Our county is not alone, as GWCL applications have skyrocketed.
I submit that more people nationwide have carry licenses of some sort, which will reduce the number of NICS checks at the point of sale...anyone who thinks gun sales have dropped off hasn't tried to go to a dealer and find a gun lately
errr., it is Barry HasTon, not HasDon.....Sheriff Haston is the current Elbert Co Sheriff

We stopped his Momma leaving the house about two blocks away. Once confronted, she gave him up. There won't be any charges for hindering apprehension unless ACCPD has info I am not aware of
Suspect in custody, arrested in Watkinsville by Sheriff's deputies, Watkinsville PD officers and ACCPD officers....arrest took place moments ago at 106 Wilson Pl. See our OCSO FB page for pics

posted @ Friday, October 26, 2012 - 10:39
Anonymous Dude - Obviously, Sheriff Berry and Chief Weems are taking full advantage of PR opportunities in other Sheriff's jurisdictions. The proper thing to do here would be for Berry and Weems to go to Sheriff Smith of Oglethorpe County with this; not misuse a regional drug task force to subvert the authority of Sheriff Smith.
But Berry and Weems, being the awful LEO PR artists they are, obviously do not respect jurisdiction or their brother Sheriffs very much.
Sheriff Berry's LEO arrogance is illustrated further in his interference in the Madison County Sheriff elections, and in his special extradition of his brother.

1) the Drug Task Force investigator assigned to this case is an employee of Sheriff Smith, as he is a member of the task force just as we are.
2) Sheriff Smith had two investigators on scene at the time of the search
3) A rifle stolen in Oglethorpe Co was recovered, but I assume the Sheriff will address that as he sees fit.
I hope this addresses your concerns
posted @ Friday, September 14, 2012 - 09:42I am exceptionally proud of the work done by patrol deputies, investigators and a coordinated effort by several agencies who put forth the effort, day and night, that led to this seizure and a series of seemingly unrelated arrests. Our citizens in OCONEE county want to know what our response to crime is. and I am unashamed to let them know the results of our hard work. I have no concerns whatsoever how other agencies respond, or fail to respond to crime.

Actually there was a Jackson Co Deputy on scene that was part of the apprehension. We appreciate his willingness to go with us and risk exposure as well. He did a fine job for us.
according to the Health Department, compliant TB patients that take their medications and keep their appointments are not a danger to society, and we know of other TB patients in the county that are compliant and do take their meds...it is when they avoid medication that they run the risk of spreading disease...as is the case here.

At 10:30 am Sgt Jeremy Wasdin and I, along with Deputy Haynes of the Jackson Co Sheriff's Office, took Hicks into custody in Maysville GA. She fled into the woods upon our arrival, and we tracked her down. She is currently in the medical facility in the OC jail being treated by our jail nurse and a nurse from Public Health....
LeglEgl - Everybody at the sheriff’s office is offered the test.
OFFERED ??? It should be mandatory.
When I was in law enforcement, testing for TB was required. Hepatitis B shots were required as well. It's a matter of protecting the staff, and assuring the staff couldn't contract the disease and transmit it to others.
Any other approach is irresponsible.
Can't make it mandatory.....it's offered, that is all we can do.....

So far we have recovered over 500 lbs of primarily prescription medication and some OTC medication as well. The box is a huge success, and as far as I know we operate the only one in the area.
