Because the Georgia Legislature hasn't made it so.

You didn't really read my entire response, Did you?
leongalis - Many of them are in locations whose local governments couldn't come close to supporting them
I understand that, However, my point is that is where the local people elect leaders that can be creative enough to come up with a plan to fund these places...Residents from Alabama and South Carolina could just as easily come in to use it, and THEY aren't helping to fund it! It needs to be up to the local governments to figure out how to fund it from the local economy...and make sure that the people that USE the rec areas are subsidizing it!
leongalis - The parks are state treasures and I'm happy to support them
I really am not trying to come across as snarky, But If you want to support them, that is great! I would be willing to support them too! I could do it with a personal check, or even an Oglethorpe County Parks Department Season Pass or Daily Pass! I just think to myself that the state is hurting fiscally. And keeping a money pit that is not self sufficient on the books is not fiscally sensible. I will ALWAYS be for local control....However, I wouldn't have a problem with the state advertising all of the County Park and Recreations areas on the State website!
posted @ Friday, April 6, 2012 - 13:49Soooo, Just a question here! Why in the HECK does this have to be a "State Park", and not a county park? I'm just thinking that State Taxpayer funds should not be going to fund such things. Why should people in Bainbridge Ga be forced to subsidize a recreation area that they will NEVER use?
Don't get me wrong....I LOVE going out to Watson Mill, But we finally managed to get it off of the "State Park" expense sheet, and now it is apparently going to go right back on it! Let Oglethorpe and Madison Counties figure out a way to gain revenue from it that will keep it open as a county park!
National Guard??? I think someone is mistaken. I am pretty sure that is a US Army Reserve billet!

He was not charged in Federal Court. The article states that he was sentenced in Hall County Superior Court. Also, just FYI, Federal Law is not always supreme to State Law. The 10th Amendment is very specific in that!

Another point: Kerry basically had it wrapped up that year by the Georgia primary. Less incentive for Democrats to vote than Republicans this year.

I cannot express how much sleep I am going to lose tonight with the knowledge that I somehow overlooked or offended Mr Al. Sharpton!
posted @ Friday, March 9, 2012 - 00:00
Blake Aued - @Shawn OKelley: You could have looked this up yourself, but here is the information you demanded.
2004: 21.3 percent.
2008: 43.8 percent.
2012: 15.1 percent with 91 percent of precincts reporting (the uncounted ballots are mostly provisional, so the total will hardly change).
Turnout was unusually low, even for a primary, especially considering how much more Republican the state has gotten in the past eight years.
Oh, and hate to break it to you, but Buddy Roemer dropped out. He's still on the Georgia ballot, but so are Jon Huntsman, Michele Bachmann, Gary Johnson and Rick Perry.
You're welcome. I'm going home now.

I checked with Secretary Kemp's office, and I got significantly different numbers than you did. I checked specifically for the Presidential Preference Primary (Not the General Election)
I got 20% in 2004
http://sos.georgia.gov/elections/voter_registration/CFV2004-03-02Precinc...
24% in 2008
http://sos.georgia.gov/elections/voter_registration/2008%20stats/ssvrz42...
And in 2012.......The Presidential Preference Primary statistics have not been compiled as of yet. If I may inquire, where did you run your numbers from?
posted @ Thursday, March 8, 2012 - 23:58
Blake Aued - @Shawn OKelley: Let me rephrase. Who ran against President Bush in the primary in 2004?
The answer is no one. Why would you want to compare an uncontested primary to a contested one?
Whom is running against Obama in the Georgia Democrat primary in 2012?
Whom ran against President Bush in the 2004 Georgia Republican Primary?
The answer to both questions is NOONE!
Who ran against President Bush in the Georgia opposition party primary in 2004?
Kerry, Edwards, Dean, and Clark.
Who is running against Obama in the Georgia opposition party primary in 2012?
Gingrich, Santorum, Paul, Roehmer, and Romney.
I don't understand why this is difficult to grasp!
I am not sure why you don't see the parallel!

WOW, Really? Ok, Let's see, There was John Kerry, And John Edwards. Howard Dean and Wesley Clark that ran in the opposition party primaries. John Kerry eventually won the primary and ran in the General Election!
posted @ Tuesday, March 6, 2012 - 23:31Sooooooooo, @Blake Aued: , How about researching the primary turnout for President Bush's 2nd term in Georgia. I 'spect that the 2004 primary turnout ain't much different. Primaries are generally much lower turnout than the General!

posted @ Tuesday, March 6, 2012 - 20:35
reader1 - I am not sure where you get the idea that YOUR insurance company is paying for my care.
I don't know why you have the idea that I said that my insurance company is paying for your care. You have obviously misunderstood something in my last post.
reader1 - If I am a young woman who does not want to have a child, I expect my insurance to pay for the birth control meds that I require
Expect it all day, however, if you bought the policy without knowing what would be and what would not be covered, then it's a rather silly expectation.
I also find humor that you "Require" birth control in order to not have a child. There IS another option for pregnancy prevention you know
, And if worst comes to worst. Target and Wal-Mart Pharmacies BOTH offer birth control for $10 a month!
reader1 - The same meds are prescribed for certain medical conditions and NOT just for birth control.I believe the young lady was testifying about that very use
Again....consumer awareness is key. KNOW what you are buying before you buy it. If it does not service your needs or desires, take your business elsewhere. She mentioned "other medical needs" as one of her least salient points.
reader1 - BIG Government should not be in my business!
If you mean this...then we agree! If you purchased the insurance, then hopefully you were aware of what the company does or does not offer, and if they do not offer something you desire...take your business elsewhere. What Sandra Fluke is advocating is NOT non-intervention by big government. She is there, in front of Democrat legislators, PRAISING Big Government intervention into the freemarket. PRAISING Obamacare....And DEMANDING that Government interfere further into the free market by DEMANDING that her recreational sexual promiscuity be subsidized by someone other than herself, regardless of whether or not it is a service that is even offered.
She essentially sat at that table and said "I am promiscuous. I need $3000.00 a year for contraceptives, and I don't want to have to pay for it, so I want BIG GOVERNMENT to FORCE these companies to give it to me....at no cost to me"
reader1 - Are you willing to pay for hospital stay and prenatal care
I am willing to take the time to carefully consider the repercussions of my actions, with the realization that I will be financially responsible for the results.
I am also willing to assess my insurance, and purchase the plans appropriate to my needs, and the needs of my family.
reader1 - Don't ask my healhtcare to pay for your erectile disfunction drugs
Do you know something that I do not?
Be that as it may, IF I had such an issue, I would find an insurance company that would sell me a policy that would cover those needs. I certainly wouldn't walk into one, get mad when they told me that they wouldn't sell me that type of coverage due to their beliefs, and demand that Government FORCE them to provide me the said medications for free.
reader1 - I also pay taxes and pay for heath insurance
Good for you. Hopefully you have chosen your insurance policy wisely!
