I've found it a lot easier if you just obey the laws and don't do anything stupid and illegal like carrying a huge amount of weed in your vehicle. And then try to outrun the cops when they've got being stupid.
posted @ Saturday, May 18, 2013 - 18:37@ElevatorLady: I recall that when the Shah of Iran was overthrown the country was in turmoil and unrest. On a Saturday some time after the Shah's removal, some perps set a movie theater on fire while it was filled with people. Some people died in the ensuing fire. The authorities caught the perps that same Saturday, tried them the same day, sentenced them to death and executed on that very same Saturday. Talk about speedy "justice." Whew.........

posted @ Tuesday, May 7, 2013 - 20:47It's tragic that the pilot didn't notice the "Fuel Low" caution light. I flew helicopters a bit in the Army and had the "Fuel Low" caution light come on one time. I was in a Huey, flying stateside and there was a USAF base not too far away, but I opted to set the helicopter down in a farmer's field and request a fuel truck be sent to my location. It was embarrassing, but not tragic. I didn't even get ribbed all that much. Better to be safe than sorry!

posted @ Wednesday, April 10, 2013 - 16:14@THX1138: I agree with your comment. Reality stars and celebrities seem to count more than our military folks and in my opinion there's no comparison between what our military personnel do for our country and what the reality and celebs do for personal gain. There's no draft so the folks in the military are there voluntarily, and they accept the risks that go with being in the military, but my hat is off to them for what they do day-in and day-out,.

posted @ Wednesday, March 27, 2013 - 13:34It's difficult reading about losing military personnel in a controversial "war" because they're always so young and generally just getting started in life. It's not unusual that they leave young children behind too. But it has to be said that they joined the military freely since there is no draft, and I presume they thought about the dangers associated with joining the military and being deployed to an area of combat. God bless them for their service and sacrifice. Rest in peace forever.
posted @ Monday, March 18, 2013 - 09:23I had a temporary handicap parking permit last year following knee surgery. At the top of one side of the permit is the following: REMOVE BEFORE PLACING VEHICLE IN MOTION. That's why people don't drive around with the permit hanging from the rear view mirror and maybe it bothers some people to see a car without the permit already displayed pull into a handicap parking spot.

posted @ Wednesday, March 13, 2013 - 12:55I saw Dr. Adams on two occasions, but something about his manner just didn't set well with me, and I never saw him again after that second appointment. I changed doctors. And I'm a man. Usually a patient either feels comfortable with a doctor or not....I just didn't feel comfortable with him.

The punks that murdered her should have been executed that day after they were convicted!!!! That wouldn't have been a loss to anyone!!!!!

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.
