To both of you: the article *does* make sense but the headline doesn't. (Once again...)

Suspects identified in weekend Athens shooting that riddled car with bullets

@The Oracle of the Athens Banner Herald: Exactly! And how amazing that they weren't injured even though they were "riddled with bullets."

Also if Lawson doesn't have a criminal record, why does he already have a mug shot?

It'll take a lot more than wildflowers, but yes, that's a good start. As are the access roads.

Blackmon: Time to rise up against student testing regimen

Bless you, Myra. But I still feel helpless -- I felt helpless when I was in the classroom, and now I feel helpless as a grandparent.

Seems to me the bus is 29 years old......

Either way though, it's a great idea for all involved.

Athens police offer tips to avoid area phone scams

One of the best tips would be: DON'T ANSWER your phone! Many scammers will not leave voice mail or messages so you don't even have to decide whether or not to respond. If you do answer and it's a scammer, HANG UP! It's not rude to hang up on a dishonest person!

@snarkydude: Snarky, you make some really good points here! But I'm not going to plus you today (I do sometimes) because you had to get in some left-bashing.

"Climate change" IS a more correct term than "global warming". And diversity is not another word for affirmative action.

However it is HIGH TIME we got more judgmental -- you got that right, for sure!

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself. No cartoons on racism

As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
