Police curious about motive behind man seeking tours of UGA sorority houses

I'm curious about a young woman who would give a strange man a tour of her house.... Perhaps the first class for some of these young people when they arrive in Athens should be one that informs them of the 'big, bad world' that exists outside their bubble....

Old paper mill in Brunswick popular among filmmakers

Once again the headline writer didn't read the article. Or maybe he/she doesn't know the difference in Brunswick and St. Marys. Which is it?

Goodness, with all those pleas, all that probation and parole, you would think he would have learned something by now!!! And yet he just keep on doing the same old things over and over. Amazing......

Athens police warn public of 'arrest warrant' scam

Since Jan. 1 I have "won" $50-75 million, been "evicted" 6-8 times, and ordered "to appear in court" all over the country. Yet, here I sit -- no richer, in my own home, having traveled nowhere to court. WHY do people fall for these things??? It's just sad..... It's not rocket science -- don't fall for ridiculous things that are clearly scams.

Warrants issued for Jackson County teacher in alleged bruising of two students

@OCCountry: EXACTLY! I wish we knew more details on this situation. If these two kids were fighting and the teacher had to separate them, it's possible that she could have bruised them slightly. Or perhaps in the fight they got bruised by each other, and a parent is blaming the teacher. Lots more we need to know on this story.

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
