An Unspeakable Tragedy

No, CBS news was blowing a political blast well before he did. It was disgusting enough that I was quite in agreement with his statement when he made it.

Yup.. It had already started way before I said anything..

Why? 36000 people died last year in DUIs and mourning or crying for them.. I find all this just so false..
And if your read what I said I acknowledged it was a tragedy.. But in the grand scheme of things...

Official: 27 dead - 18 children - in Conn. school shooting

This was a tragedy today that involved a spineless, cowardly, asshat behind a gun. People died and people are wounded. very sad. i have a 9 year step, daughter,2 sons and a beautiful wife; both are my world, and I don't know what I would do they were taken. BUT that gun did not wake up this morning, clean its little bbl and brush its firing pin, get coffee, and walk out the door to the incident site and start shooting. No, a person made a decision, no matter what mental capacity at the time, and picked up in animate gun, loaded gun, aimed, fired, and shot people. GUNS do not Kill people. just the same as drunks that continue to drive wile intoxicated. People use guns as a tool, Criminals use them as a tool. So, for all you screaming tree-hugging pacificsitc liberal, Costas and Whitlock loving, believe MSNBC and CNN as the word of God types: do me a favor, research the actual FBI stats on which is more deadly in the past 3 years: guns or DUIs. and do not even start down the 'assault weapons' speel until you can 100% correctly define, according to the BATFE and the NFA, what a real "assault weapon" is defined as. For my solid 2A supporters out there. brace yourselves, lib lip poop is about to hit the fan.

Mich. House approves right-to-work limiting unions

If Unions are so good, why do they need to intimidate folks into joining them or agreeing with them..
Just look at the thugs in MI why?
If it is so good people should be flocking to it..

@dahreese: Name one thing in the past 30 years Unions have done for the worker..
Second Michigan is a Union state but it seems the Unions did nothing to stop most of the auto jobs from shipping overseas, blame the GOP all you want but the Dems have held enough power to stop it.. Same here in PA with the steel mills and coal mines.. Oh btw coal is heavy Union and it is Obama that is killing the industry here..

Oh and so you agree with the UAW forcing Chrysler to hire back the drunks that where fried for drinking.. Oh that is a grand thing for a union.. just Grand..
Lazarus Laughs Last - @Ravenbear:
Au contaire, Ravenbear, you have conveniently left out additional information. What a surprise! Is that a development from hunter-gatherer to pick-and-chooser?
"It has occasionally been argued that the Supreme Court, in Torcaso v Watkins, "found" Secular Humanism to be a religion. This assertion is based on a reference, by Justice Black, in a footnote (number 11) to the court's finding, to court cases where organized groups of self-identified Humanists, or Ethicists, meeting on a regular basis to share and celebrate their beliefs, have been granted religious-based tax exemptions. [2]
Justice Black's use of the term "secular humanism" in his footnote has been seized upon by some religious groups, such as those supporting causes such as teaching creationism in schools, as a "finding" that any secular or science-based activity is, in fact, religion.[3][4] [5]

However, such attempts to conflate non-religious, secular or scientific ideas and activities with religion have been explicitly rejected by subsequent courts, most notably Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District, where U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III ruled that intelligent design is not science, that it "cannot uncouple itself from its creationist, and thus religious, antecedents", and that the school district's promotion of it therefore violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (see Intelligent Design).[6] In fact, prior to its use by Justice Black, the term "Secular Humanism" had never before been used in any court case, and it is unclear why Justice Black used the term in this instance, other than to perhaps emphasize the groups' non-belief in any divine force.

Well you need to do a bit more research..
http://www.wnd.com/2005/08/31895/
federal court of appeals ruled yesterday Wisconsin prison officials violated an inmate’s rights because they did not treat atheism as a religion.

“Atheism is [the inmate's] religion, and the group that he wanted to start was religious in nature even though it expressly rejects a belief in a supreme being,” the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals said.

The court decided the inmate’s First Amendment rights were violated because the prison refused to allow him to create a study group for atheists.

Brian Fahling, senior trial attorney for the American Family Association Center for Law & Policy, called the court’s ruling “a sort of Alice in Wonderland jurisprudence.”

“Up is down, and atheism, the antithesis of religion, is religion,” said Fahling.

The Supreme Court has said a religion need not be based on a belief in the existence of a supreme being. In the 1961 case of Torcaso v. Watkins, the court described “secular humanism” as a religion.

Fahling said today’s ruling was “further evidence of the incoherence of Establishment Clause jurisprudence.”

“It is difficult not to be somewhat jaundiced about our courts when they take clauses especially designed to protect religion from the state and turn them on their head by giving protective cover to a belief system, that, by every known definition other than the courts’ is not a religion, while simultaneously declaring public expressions of true religious faith to be prohibited,” Fahling said.

Also by all standard put down by scholars atheism meets the tenants of a religion, I posted Ninian Smart's book, Dimensions of the Sacred which is used by most scholars in the area of religion to define what is religion, atheism meets those tenants.. Working on my Masters in Religious Studies this is right up my alley..

And Bill Maher is an idiot.. He might want to do some research on religion before he opens his be trap..

A better way to determine whether a worldview is a religion is to look for certain characteristics that religions have in common. The framework set forth by Ninian Smart, commonly known as the Seven Dimensions of Religion, is widely accepted by anthropologists and researchers of religion as broadly covering the various aspects of religion, without focusing on things unique to specific religions.

The seven dimensions proposed by Smart are narrative, experiential, social, ethical, doctrinal, ritual and material. Not every religion has every dimension, nor are they all equally important within an individual religion. Smart even argues that the “secularisation” of western society is actually a shift of focus from the doctrinal and ritual to the experiential.

Regardless of Mr. Page's problems with depression, I salute him for calling this out and I hope he can manage to continue to do so. I wonder why they let him go with an honorable discharge without penalty when that apprears to be against the rules.

Pop Addict Book Review: "Facing the Music and Living to Talk About It" by Nick Carter

As a huge Backstreet Boys fan, I was little perplexed on reading Nick Carter?s book.  It?s not like reading a book about Elvis Presley or The Beatles. I didn?t live through those moments. I didn?t see them in person. But as someone who has followed Nick?s career since I became a fan in 1998, not just in the Backstreet Boys, but as a solo artist, I?ve always thought we had a lot in common besides being the same age. read more
