posted @ Wednesday, May 15, 2013 - 07:39These simple “laws” of migration were first developed in England in the 1840s by Ernst Georg Ravenstein, a statistician in the Royal Statistical Association. He was investigating the large numbers of people who moved from rural northern England to London in search of jobs in the textile industry. It seems nothing much has changed, and the same reasons for moving can easily be applied to the current Mexican migration to the United States.
Moving from northern England to London is the same as illegals moving to the U.S. ?? Liberals....ya gotta love 'em......

Never happen ..... Only Democrats allowed weekly columns in this paper....
posted @ Tuesday, May 7, 2013 - 08:07A small store downtown, while being a good idea, will not be price competitive.....
If the idea is to provide a closer place for low income families to shop for their weekly groceries, this is doomed from the onset.....
As far as a place to pick up a few things, rather than drive out of town, it will be convenient.....
When I surrendered my eagle plate, the state had to issue me a generic one....
Thousands of others did the same thing..... What did that cost the state..???
Typical liberal..... I don't like it, so you shouldn't do it, either.....
I gave up hunting when I was 16, but would never try to browbeat others to stop.
Many, many people feed their families this way....
Steve needs to look at circumstances around him ......
Good piece, as usual...... I,too, miss singers like George, and Don Williams, who wouldn't have a chance breaking into what now passes as country music....
Became a fan of Bluegrass..... Jekyll island has a great indoor festival every year, in January. Goes on for several days....We have the same seats every year....Gibson Brothers, Doyle Lawson, Kenny and Amanda Smith, etc .....
It's George Bush's fault......

Had a similar experience when moving my wife's mother here from another state....

Yes....I buy rough oak from a sawmill near Talmo.... Very reasonable...
As a woodworker, I would love access to recycled material... Lumber available at the local big box stores is mostly unusable because of the way it's stored....
If I do find a piece of hardwood that's not bowed, the cost is so high that there is no profit to be made.... I have gone to buying rough oak, drying, and planing it....
I can't find maple or cherry anywhere.....
She'd be better than palosi....

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.
