UGA student stabbed, in intensive care

@bobbidiboo: Not everybody is from Europe.Where I'm from Malani is a Hawaiian name.Haven't heard the first though but if his heritage is of the pacific or south pacific islander variety, that definitely explains his temper.

Mayor and commission to get first look at potential Kroger in northeast Athens

@Anonymous Dude: Ya,only because of the publicity the project got when musicians got involved and that's because one of them would have been looking at it in his backyard.Too bad musicians didn't give a crap about the rest of Athens, even when it doesn't directly affect them.I suppose they can't do everything but even the Flag Pole kisses commissioners butts these days....this place is going to hell.

It doesn't matter what The Planning and Zoning Commission recommends. They voted down the Courtyard South, Milledge Ave. project, twice and well..who cares, right? Girtz is a one man arm twisting show, getting his pockets lined by any and every developer that comes along,he'll do what THEY want. The developers OWN the ACC Commission. If the public says no,they'll just use their little loop hole..." THE PRIVATE WORK SESSION" to get it done anyway.

Athens cop named Officer of the Year for helping crack murder case

Anthony Fuller's prints were matched to FIVE other burglary scenes before his lone print at this ladies house was discovered and run ???? What was he doing on the street, why hadn't he been picked up already ??? Did I miss something ??? Congrats to the officer and the lady who confided in him, also w/o whom this case would not have been solved.

Vt. college's oxen-slaughter plan riles activists

@E.J.: Actually dear,I've worked in slaughter houses a good portion of my life AND I farm, there IS fear, the transporting, the handling, the smell of blood, etc.ESPECIALLY in older animals, they know.If the school was smart, they'de sell the oxen to these folks who would raise far more to purchase them, than they are worth to the school as beef. But now I know why everyone makes fun of you for being a know-it-all.

Downtown Athens developments in the works

@The Oracle of the Athens Banner Herald: sounds like a typo, also sounds like you're jealous.Fred owns more downtown property than probably any other individual. Those students he packs in down there support the bars, restaurants and other business that pay lots of taxes....as in MORE taxes than YOU.Fred is a big contributor to the tax base in Clarke County and gets zero respect. Your Coke reference is pretty despicable, get a life.

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself. No cartoons on racism

As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
