As a former Clark County teacher I am not surprised at the results. Gaines Elem is below even some of the worst schools in Atlanta Public Schools. There is no discipline at the school. Students that want to learn, cant because of all the disruptions. Hit a teacher, cuss at a teacher, throw a chair, and you are back in the same classroom 20 min later. And you are told to quit writing the student up. At Clarke Central there is open pot smoking and the admin knows about it, it keeps some of the more violent student calm during the day. How in the world could our National Prinicipal of the year come from such a low-performing school? Does not make sense. Lanoue is very good at pulling the wool over everybodys eyes. I wish that Cobb Supt. job would open up soon.

posted @ Wednesday, February 6, 2013 - 21:19Please dont say "the judge" tell us who the judge is. we have have got to put a stop to this mess of letting criminals do what ever they want. He will be on the streets again, very soon. I thought Burgalary was a felony. what happenned to the 3 strikes and you are in prison for life? I want some answers.
posted @ Wednesday, February 6, 2013 - 21:11How about unmarked police cars? I will be glad to loan you mine. Another thought, these kids from these neighborhoods go to Clarke County Schools. what do you think the 15 year old that is running drugs does in school? He creates turmoil, same as what we read in the paper every day.
posted @ Monday, February 4, 2013 - 17:01I really would like some answers as to why he was not in jail. Will he serve 2 more and then be out again? Would the Banner Herald do an article and interview some court officials and give us a answer? I hope you would.
posted @ Saturday, February 2, 2013 - 13:21As a former teacher in Clarke County, you cannot not imagine the lack of respect, the foul language, the racist administration in most of the schools. It will never get any better untill a complete house cleaning. This will not happen untill citizens run for the Board of Education. I will be a candidate for my district when the seat is up for reelection. I will probably not win, but I will get the issues out in the open.
posted @ Friday, February 1, 2013 - 13:13@TeeWee: And you think any classroom instruction is going on? What rights to other students have to actually get an education. She will be in jail at 18 anyway. shes has no consequences for her actions, there are no consequences for students in clark county schools.
posted @ Thursday, January 31, 2013 - 18:43As a former teacher at the school, I can tell you this is a weekly, sometimes daily occurence at this school. The student will be back in School by Monday. All the billboards in the world can cannot cover up what is really happenning in many of the Clarke county Schools. Just like all the cover ups that have happenned at the Central Office. We were told explanations were coming, where are they? It is truly a sad situation. It will all come out when the superindent goes back to Cobb County as their new superindent. He will have all kinds of fake statistics and glowing figures on how he has reduced the disciplinary write-ups. At a meeting with the principals, they were told to keep a close watch(intimadate) teachers that were actually writing students up. Wake Up Board of Education
posted @ Thursday, January 31, 2013 - 18:34I know why the last 2 had to resign.
posted @ Saturday, November 3, 2012 - 19:02I can tell you that at Gaines Elem they were 13 teachers that left at the end of last year. Only 1 went to another CC school. There may be many other racial discrimination suits to come. We are headed in the direction of Clayton County. Ask any parent who has had a child at Whit Davis under the previous leadership there.
posted @ Saturday, November 3, 2012 - 18:52As a teacher who has just left the system, something is terribly wrong in the county office. They refuse to even follow their own attorney's advice. Lanoue said at the time the first 3 were let go, that more infomation would be forth coming. It never was. It is a sad state of affairs that we have a newspaper that is afraird to write a fact based article because Lanoue has a relationship with the owner of the paper. Wake up and demand answers. I will be contacting my Bd of Education member Monday morning.

As a huge Backstreet Boys fan, I was little perplexed on reading Nick Carter?s book. It?s not like reading a book about Elvis Presley or The Beatles. I didn?t live through those moments. I didn?t see them in person. But as someone who has followed Nick?s career since I became a fan in 1998, not just in the Backstreet Boys, but as a solo artist, I?ve always thought we had a lot in common besides being the same age. read more

The Athens Banner-Herald sports staff combined to win 11 individual awards on Sunday at the Georgia Sports Writers Association's annual meeting in Marietta. You can get a few more details on that in this story ? "Banner-Herald sports staff wins 11 awards" ? and I thought I'd provide some links to the winning stories for the curious. The awards were for the sports staff's work in 2012. read more
