Augusta teacher arrested for abandoning 3-year-old while shoplifting in Athens

Don't worry the teacher's union will get her another teaching job if she loses this one. The parents of her future students will never know what she did.

Today's editorial cartoon
dahreese -
Really...?
That's interesting, since Jesus said, "I have not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it." (Matthew 5: 17).
But...you've read it....the whole book, that is....
I suppose whichever of the three of four possible Johns who wrote the "ending which is amazing" didn't know that.
He fulfilled the law by paying the penalty for the law. Law is there to point us towards Him. When the law reveals all our sins to us, we realize we couldn't possibly keep the law. When we accept that Christ paid our debt for breaking the laws, we are freed from their grip and are no longer held captive by sin.
I would go on, but I'm fairly certain you don't really want to have a spiritual conversation.

How embarrassing. You really should have read the entire book before using it to make your point. The ending is amazing, and if you take it's advice, it totally wipes out the laws in the Torah/Pentateuch. Interesting that so many people can interpret this ancient text without ever studying it, or at the very least, actually reading it.

What's next for health law: Calm or more turbulence?

Coming up next: Huge taxpayer bailouts go to the insurance companies that went belly up because young healthy people didn't sign up to pay the bills. There is a provision for this in the bill that nobody read before they passed it.

Youth pot smoking rises as attitudes shift
curiouscat - Pot smoking is just, if not more, harmful on the body as cigarette smoking. It may not have nicotine in it, but when it is held in the lungs, the tars do their job. I do think it should be legal for adults, but to say "it is harmless" is simply not true.

No filter either.

Patriarch off 'Duck Dynasty' after gay comments
Heisenberg -
That is the most unintelligent insane rant I have read in a long time. Where do you get your information from? I highly doubt that straight teens think its cool to be gay all of a sudden. Their hormones alone wouldn't allow it. Do you even know any gay people? If you do please ask them if its a choice they made or if they were born that way. I promise their answer will be that its not a choice. Please please please provide some sort of documentation from a legitimate source regarding the gay fad in high schools across our country. By the way the sky is falling and soylent green is people.
I work with teenagers everyday. This is my source. You can't make crap like that up. My point is there are people choosing that lifestyle. Yes, I know gay people.

'Duck Dynasty' fans react to Robertson's hiatus

Dear A&E,
Running an all day Duck Dynasty marathon (including Phil) on Christmas isn't exactly standing firm in your decision. ‪
Running next season's 8 episodes, starring Phil Robertson, probably isn't either.
Heisenberg -
You are wrong homosexuality is not a sin. People are born that way it is not a choice. Why would anyone purposely choose a lifestyle where they will be discriminated against and ridculed by their peers growing up. God my very well have influenced the people who wrote the bible but it seems to me that some of those men took advantage of what they were doing and added some of their own views and agendas.
Humans don't decide what is, or isn't a sin, only God can do that. We are too biased and wouldn't be fair judges. Any sinful lifestyle comes with negative consequences. Some doctors think that alcoholics are born with the disease of alcoholism. Alcoholics don't want to be slaves to addiction and ruin their lives, but they can't stop that intense desire to feel alcohol pumping through their bodies. Alcoholics can make the choice to not act on those desires. Any of us, no matter what our sexual orientation, can choose to not act on it. Another disturbing fact about homosexuality among young people is that it's a fad. In Clarke Central it's considered cool to be gay and so a lot of kids are "being gay" to fit in. I know that sounds radical but it's the truth in high schools all over the country. Then there is the nature factor. In any of the Kingdoms of taxonomy, natures #1 goal is to reproduce and carry on the species. Homosexuality does not promote reproduction. I think that is why God is against it, because it fights against His creation.
Heisenberg -
Yeah but the bible wasnt written by god it was written by man so theres really no way to tell if its really gods word or someone elses personal agenda. Being gay is not something that people choose they are born that way so why would god create someone who is destined to be a sinner?
God wrote the Bible through men, all scripture is inspired by the Spirit. God doesn't create us to sin He doesn't want us to, but He gives us free will. We all choose sin over God, we can't help ourselves. Even after we come to Jesus we are sinners and continue to sin. The difference is we realize how bad our sin really is and that the only way to get forgiveness is through Jesus. We all have our weaknesses and temptations. It's a choice whether we carry out our desires. I don't hate alcoholics, but getting drunk is a sin. I don't hate conceited people, but being conceited is a sin. I don't hate homosexuals, but being homosexual is a sin. I am a sinner and I sin all the time, that is why I need Jesus.

News flash : Jesus is God. Whatever God has spoken Jesus has spoken. God sees all sins as equal. There are no really bad sins or not so bad sins, they are all equally bad and against God. All humans are sinners equally, no matter what the sin.

The entire family should publicly say how they feel about homosexuality. Do you think A&E will suspend them all or cancel the show? I would love to watch them squirm as they decide how strongly they really stand with the gay community. I have the feeling $$$$$$ might get in the way of that commitment.

UGA student's death ruled suicide

I had a feeling it was a suicide, nothing else made sense. So sad she couldn't find a way out of her despair.
If someone you know threatens suicide, starts to give things away, loses interest in things they used to love, or seems overly sad or angry, you need to get them help. Get them to the hospital, they probably won't want to go. When all else fails call 911.

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century.
