Jonathan Taylor's gone — what does it mean for UGA?

It shouldn't mean much of anything. There are plenty more just like him out there that have some talent and think they can do as they damn well please. Football won't last forever and players like him are a disgrace to the guys that want to get an education that will help them when their football days are long gone.

11-year-old tries to fight Athens officers

Another child that is out of control. Sad but it doesn't look like he has much of a future.

Danielsville man charged with pointing gun at man holding infant and child

@Ben Had: The only people with their heads in the sand are the ones that think more firearms laws will keep felons from getting their hands on a gun. I don't think very many convicted felons are going to worry about breaking another foolish law.

Why don't we enforce the laws we have now? We can't enforce them and we all know it. We can't keep people that break the law in jail because our court system is so messed up.

If you want to put your head back in the sand that's fine but cats like to play in sand so just be careful. Smile

Teen strangled, man decapitated in online sex case

Some people should not be allowed on any type of social media. But where do we draw the line and who will do the drawing? Puzzled

Is a pet right for your family?

I believe that is we people put a little more thought into this there wouldn't be so many dogs and cats in shelters.

Two Dollar General stores open today in Athens

@scarborj: Back in the day calling someone names would get a person banned. I guess that went away with reading the paper online free.

Police: Woman posted selfies on Facebook in stolen dress

The best thing about Facebook is that when stupid people do stupid things they always have a lot of "friends" to rat them out.

Man who turned in wallet prefers life on road

@thelastresort: Maybe sometimes a person doesn't see the need to change. Sounds like he may be getting his life in order. Just not what others would call order.

This is the kind of story that we need to remind us that there are still a few good people left in this crazy world.

Goodbye Old Friend

Thanks for the support. I know lots of people that have had to do the same thing but this was the first time it happened to me. I thought I was prepared but I guess it's like sex and getting shot at. Someone can explain it to you all day long but until it happens you don't really understand what they mean.

Joel, all I can say is that as long as the cat knows it's loved when it is it's time to leave you what more can we ask for. We should all be this blessed when our time is up.

Two Dollar General stores open Saturday in Athens

I'm not too proud to admit that I do shop Dollar General sometimes. The problems I have is that they always seem to be stocking the store during peak shopping hours and they keep moving stuff around. I wish the stores were a little bigger because you don't have room to cuss a cat in the ones that I have been in.

Family leaves Athens restaurant without paying

One should always check to see if a restaurant will take an EBT card before one orders. This will keep you out of the police blotter.

Athens police arrest three suspected gang members

It's clear that these fine upstanding young men know how the system works. We need to stop bowing down to these thugs. It's past time to bring back the work camps and work them until their a##holes are sucking buttermilk. But we all know that will never happen.

I don't go to this library, I use the one in Madison County. I have noticed a decrease in the number of books the last couple of times I have gone. You remember books don't you? No batteries to charge and they don't have to be plugged in. They don't get a virus or any other of that computer stuff.

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
