@Ben Had: Did you know that smoking too much weed can cause physiological feminization in men?

I believe in concealed carry but to carry a weapon open is just asking for trouble. As far as more shootings in bars goes maybe we will see a drop. People might be a little nicer if they know they could get shot by somebody if they try to start some crap.

Echols: Mom instilled lasting values in three sons

I am sorry for the lose of your mother. Sounds like she raised yall right. From what you have written about her I would say that she will always be with you and you are blessed to have the kind of memories that you do. Many people don't.

The Editor's Desk: Will downtown plan simply gather dust?

I thought the downtown plan was very simple and easy to put into place. Bars, more bars and a few more bars. Hotels and some student housing thrown in so maybe the kids can make it home before they have to pee.

Noisy church service in rural Athens area prompts complaint

I didn't know you couldn't have a church in an agriculture zone. Reminds me of a line from an old song.

If I can't praise the Lord while I'm plowing my field somebody hold my mule.

Woman says beau stole her dog, TV on 1st date

This really doesn't surprise me. $3.000 for a TV and $4.000 for a dog? She had this coming. Stupid people should not have dogs.

Man charged with exposing self outside Athens bank

@snarkydude: Homelessness does not equal masturbation. 76% of all adults have admitted to masturbation. The rest lied.

The Editor's Desk: More (what else?) Prince Avenue; Voting changes; Go, Cora!

An extension of downtown Athens? If this part of Prince Av. was downtown Athens the problem would have been solved a long time ago.

Man fined $525 for drink refill

Hell no it wasn't handled correctly. The hospital should have let him pay for the refill and no harm would have been done. This is another example of people that think they have a little bit of power and it goes to their little pea sized head.

Before we had trash pickup I would go to the land fill. The Garbage Police were always fun to deal with. Once after I paid for the trash the nice lady held out a receipt for me. I told I didn't want it and she got huffy and told me I had to take. Needless to say I replied to her that I didn't have to take anything and if I took it I would throw it in my trash and pay to give it back. She could throw it in her trash can for free.

The Shoebox

My wife is in the process of cleaning out stuff in the house that her Mom and Dad had lived in. Before they moved there it was the house that her grandparents lived in. We have found lots of pictures and other neat stuff. We found a sales agreement her grandfather had from the Comer Motor Co. in 1929. He paid some money down and put up the mule to secure the note. He made one payment a year, in the fall after the crops were in, and paid it off in five short years.

Bloomberg plans $50M gun control network

Why doesn't he spend his money trying to find out what makes people want to do violence to others in the first place. Does anyone really think that more laws or tougher laws are going to keep crazy people or repeat felons from getting guns.

I don't think patting yourself on the back is how you get to heaven.

Moving asparagus to the center of your plate

And while I'm thinking about it of all the ads that keep popping up here on the ABH how many times do you see something that makes you want to buy that product? I had already ordered worms from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm before the ads started here so that one doesn't count.

Handmade Japanese Swords. When I saw that one I said oh hell yeah. I gottta get me one of them. Until I saw the price. Maybe when my money starts coming in from the government to fund my "organic" worm farm maybe I can get one.

Do ads determine how you shop and what you buy? Have you bought anything that maybe you didn't think you needed until you saw it here?

Comer woman praises Jesus, asks about ‘boob job’

I thought juggle was like throwing balls, chainsaws and stuff like that up in the air and catching them. If she can juggle her boobs I would say she has more than enough.

Moving asparagus to the center of your plate

1/3 of an inch is not a unit of measure. Whoever wrote this does not know how to read a ruler. My best guess is that it would be somewhere around 5/16" to 3/8" but no bigger than 1/2". Or another easy way would be to make sure that the spears are about yea big around.

One can of Green Giant asparagus put in a small baking dish. Cover with one can of cream of mushroom soup, two sliced up hard boiled eggs, and a double handful of grated extra sharp rat cheese. Put this in the oven on about 350 when you put the steaks on the grill. And I don't mean one of them gas things either. When the steaks are medium rare the asparagus stuff will be ready.

I don't have the nutrition information for this and the be honest I don't care about it anyway. But it's quick, easy and it ain't bad.

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
