Comments turned off on story about unfounded rape allegation against "Down South" crew member?

The comments were turned off because the powers that be don't trust us. I don't think anyone is minding the store so it's better to punish everybody than to just punish the ones that cross the line.

I have read comments in the morning only to see them removed in the evening. I have read comments by some people only to see they had been banned later in the day. Many times the comment was not offensive and I think someone just had an ax to grind.

Those of us that are still here are just too mature and cultured for the ABH staff to understand. They are too busy with Twitter, Facebook or some other childish nonsense that they think makes them feel important.

Athens boy mauled, cop attacked by pit bull

This is something that will haunt this young man forever. I pray for his recovery.

What we need to remember is that Pit Bulls have become thug dogs and I don't thing they are shown the same kind of attention that the rest of us dog lovers do. This is another example of what can happen.

BLOG: Will Georgia's 'Slow Poke' law withstand challenge on appeal?

A few years ago I spent some time in Texas. People did not try to act like a butt and hold up traffic. They stayed in the right hand lane unless they were passing another pick up truck.

If it was a two lane road the shoulder was paved and as wide as the driving lane. If you came up behind a slow moving truck they would pull over to the right and wave you by.

Nice people.

Alabama man pleads not guilty in kitten killings

How long does it take to get these results? I can give you the results now. He's crazy and dangerous. Lock him away before he hurts something other than a poor kitten.

The Editor's Desk: Accommodating cyclists might be good economic development move

I think this is a wonderful thing. As long as the bikers understand that they don't own the road. Share the road means that you will be sharing the road with some people that are not that friendly to bikes. Obey the rules and use a little common sense.

Logan's Roadhouse to host fundraiser to benefit the Buddy Christian Foundation

@LaMareaRoja: I think it's the same one. I had rather walk on peanut shells with a bunch of people that are raising money for a good cause than wade through pee and puke downtown with a bunch of drunk kids and liberals.

I don't have to pay to park either.

Execution offers evidence against lethal injection

An execution is like anything else, some methods work better than others. Go back to what we know works. Bring back the firing squad. It's quick, cheap and it works. And have one at least once a week.

Jonathan Taylor's gone — what does it mean for UGA?

It shouldn't mean much of anything. There are plenty more just like him out there that have some talent and think they can do as they damn well please. Football won't last forever and players like him are a disgrace to the guys that want to get an education that will help them when their football days are long gone.

Danielsville man charged with pointing gun at man holding infant and child

@Ben Had: The only people with their heads in the sand are the ones that think more firearms laws will keep felons from getting their hands on a gun. I don't think very many convicted felons are going to worry about breaking another foolish law.

Why don't we enforce the laws we have now? We can't enforce them and we all know it. We can't keep people that break the law in jail because our court system is so messed up.

If you want to put your head back in the sand that's fine but cats like to play in sand so just be careful. Smile

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
