@Lady of the Lake: I was wondering about that too - we live just off of Epps Bridge Pkwy and I always thought this was west Athens? I know probably more south as we are just about 2 mile from Walmart. I don't see "west" in this article but it was reportedas being in a west Athens neighborhood on facebook.posted @ Tuesday, January 21, 2014 - 16:47
@Dr Benway: Had to share - lol
SOUTHERN BAKED POSSUM (OPPOSSUM)
WITH SWEET POTATO
1 fat possum
Salt & pepper
2 cloves garlic
2 c. water
5 strips bacon
2 Ig. onions
1 tbsp. celery leaves
1 Ig. can mushrooms
5 Ig. sweet potatoes, cut in halves
3 tbsp. shortening
1 tbsp. chopped parsley
2 c. water
Nail possum to a board, just a little larger than the possum.
Skin it. Make paste of shortening, salt, pepper and rub over
entire possum. Fill cavity with onions, garlic, chopped parsley
and celery leaves. Place possum and board on rack in roasting
pan. Lay 5 strips bacon across bread. Add water and mushrooms.
Leave uncovered. Bake in moderately hot oven (300 to 350 degrees)
until tender. Baste every 15 minutes. THIS IS A MUST, to
determine when done, pull leg away from body. When done, throw
away the possum and potatoes and eat the board.
Minion - how does one have a 1 year old and 6 month old twins???? The alleged one year boy is walking and can reach and turn a door knob????
the welfare checks, public housing, food stamps, and peach care for three children doesn't cover the bills? I know, that seems harsh..... I should be shocked and dismayed for the kids and mother... as Jay Z reminds us it's a hard-knock life lady, maybe this is that turning point screaming at you to change your life...
I was wondering that too. She must have gotten pregnant immediate after wards but still the boy would be at least 15 months old at the youngest then.posted @ Monday, January 6, 2014 - 16:08

hmmm....you can SAY you're going to kill yourself, and and disappear, and within the SAME year a judge can declare you dead - with no proof???? Sounds like a lot of people in debt found a way way out if they don't mind starting over. (I thought a person had to be missinig 7 years?)posted @ Thursday, January 2, 2014 - 12:52
A shame - could possibly have been avoided if he had been walking FACING traffic.instead of with traffic if he was in the westbound lane. When are people going to realize there's a reason for that rule? We don't know what you're going to do when we come up behind you and most times if you're on your phone or ipod, you don't even hear us coming. At least if you're facing us, there's more of a chance you'll actually see us.posted @ Monday, December 30, 2013 - 12:36

I'm familiar with what happened to Sgt. Courtney Gale six years ago. Mentally ill persons can appear anywhere, and I don't think he specifically picked that Kroger for security reasons. It's also not usual that some shoplifters resist arrest. If @CLG is accurate in her description, why hasn't that store gone out of business? It's flouishing even in the face of The Fresh Market. I'll respectfully ask you the same question I asked her, "When was the last time you went inside the Alps Kroger?"
P.S. Has this store gone downhill, too?
I agree - I shop there regularly and never feel threatened. Since the expansion, It appears a lot nicer and I actually prefer it to other grocery stores. Crimes happen in any store, Kohls had a shoplifter the other day as did WalMart... It's whereever they have a chance.posted @ Saturday, December 21, 2013 - 12:16

@E.J.: I'm not surprised . We had been in there twice and it was so very unorganized, you couldn't find a thing. All the books were on shelves, in boxes and in no particular order. You'd have to spend hours to find any book you wanted. The clothing was not sized, so again, a lot of time looking if you had it. It was summer and very hot in there so you didn't want to stay very long. Earlier in the year when the story started, we were told that it was all because of lack of volunteers to do organizing, etc, but if you can't find anything, you won't go back and they'd lose money, too. And if it is too warm in summer to be comfortable, volunteers won't stay. Vicious circle of events.posted @ Wednesday, December 18, 2013 - 02:56

Summary: I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself.
