Tenn. grant to help Athens neighborhood build park
Thomas Jefferson Snodgrass -

"Before the park can move forward in development, the county must conclude how much land on the Barber Street site it owns."

That's a curious statement. The county says that they own 2.3 acres. Why is there any question?
I guess it's one thing to build it but then upkeep has to come in. People in charge would rather spend money on pet projects

Children bitten by fox at Ga. elementary school

Seeing a fox in the woods is an unusual. Seeing one in broad daylight on a school playground is trouble. Same goes for raccoons and skunks although people are more likely to give a skunk plenty of room.

New teacher evaluation law 'fundamentally flawed,' some say
Fridas Boss -

You can lead a horse to water.................

God bless the teachers.

The problem is who's teaching them at home? Let's test them. If they fail, spay and neuter.
Ok here is someone who has identified the problem and not just another fix aimed at the school and teachers. Also why do we put so much faith in "administrators".. After spending some years in the classroom it was my view they were the people who really could not cut it in the classroom and had the CASH to buy a administrative degree. Maybe leadership quality is lacking there in addition to hammering the teachers. Oh by the way you do not need smarts to get a doctorate in education. All you need is cash and the ability to stick with it.... Oh and attending the right school helps. Some hand degrees out like suckers at a kindergarten party.

Absurd iPad accessories

One Yahoo article highlights some unique accessories for Apple's iPad. The iPad Commode Caddy, the iMaxi, and the Style Shirt are some of the ridiculous products out there.

This and PLENTY of other "apps" is how Americans pizz their money away and then complain they don't have enough to get along or retire

Officials: Suspect lunged at FBI agent with knife
dakiwi13 -

i'm w/thx1138. there's too much that doesn't add up about the whole boston bombing....here come the haters
Actually everything does pretty much add up. 2 individuals built a couple pressure cooker bombs and popped em off. There may be more implicated but that is the long and short. Conspiracy theories always come out and by every measure they are a stretch. Now if you wish to talk about John Kennedy, MLK and Bobby all getting zapped after being a huge part of the civil rights movement you might have something there. That was some strange lightening to hit the same place 3 times. That does not add up as you put it

Poll: Georgians oppose campus guns
mpd0.59 -

Republicans might take comfort in results showing conservative Georgia Sen. Johnny Isakson has a 50 percent approval rating.

The latest (May 17-18) CNN/ORC International Poll shows Obama with a 53% job approval rating. The previous poll conducted in early April showed him with a 51% approval rating.

lets take an Obama poll on this forum and see where he rates

More Obama aides knew of IRS audit; Obama not told

But McDonough and the other advisers did not tell Obama, leaving him to learn about the politically perilous results of the internal investigation from news reports more than two weeks later, officials said.

Well I don't believe that and besides where does the buck stop if ever in Washington

Atheists to put books next to Bibles in Ga. parks
keepitsimple -

Yep, Deal should have seen this coming. Best thing to do is to pull the Bibles and return them to the Gideons. Next week someone will be wanting to drop off some kinda witchcraft pamphlets.

Still wonder why anyone would look in those drawers anyways....it's a park for Christ sake..get out and enjoy what God made.
When finished basic and was getting ready to ship off to Nam someone came to the barracks and dropped off a load of little red bibles from the Gideons. Carried it through 2 tours in swampland. Did it help??? Don't know, but it helped me. No one has the right to tell anyone that reading and believing in the Bible is wrong. nor do they have the right to dictate where it's done and by who. You an atheist don't read it. You would be hard pressed to find someone who gives a sit less than me

Trail would link Atlanta BeltLine to Chattahoochee

For the trust, key goals of the project are to restore the creek’s ecosystem and “really reconnect people with nature, with something positive.”

Nobody has built there because it floods. I have an idea!!! Lets get a bunch of people who care about the earth and the environment to clean it up for free !!! Then the city governments and politicians can bask in the limelight... and spend the money on something more important like a golf course

Obama aims to halt perception of passive president

Spending years of my life in the military I swore an oath of loyalty that included following orders delivered by the Commander and Chief who ever that may be. Truth be told I have had little respect for the last 2 presidents and not a whole lot more for the ones preceding them. Somewhere along the line Washington has quit being " For the people, by the people"..Politics favor the rich at the favor of screwing the middle class. Obama's promise of hope and change was hollow when it was made. Only reason he became president was the claim that he could fix the disaster that Bush allowed to take place. Bottom line is the only people who will pay the bills to get the country back on it's feet are the middle class. Very sad but unfortunately what we have now will not go away and along with it a new normal for the middle class. The rich will continue to get richer

Obama tries to regain control amid controversies

"Americans have a right to be angry about it, and I am angry about it," Obama said of the IRS actions. "I will not tolerate this kind of behavior at any agency, but especially at the IRS given the power that it has and the reach that it has into all of our lives."

Why do I have the feeling his comments are bullsit ??

Pop Addict: New music, summer tours and buying tickets

There is a lot going on in the world of pop culture these days and I?ve been so busy that I haven?t had much time to write about it.  So how about we catch up? ?Arrested Development? is back! Rep. Regina Quick pulls no punches on Chamber scorecard

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more
