Tomorrow is that sweet boy's 6th birthday. Please say a prayer that he gets out before then.

You will be dearly missed Chief Brown. Make the most of your time with your wonderful wife and family! God bless! Smile

It is sad to me that people posting on here are more concerned with how Joe wrote this article than the facts themselves. These are the facts that are undisputed: 1 - he is a doctor and like some other professions held to a higher standard than most people. 2- he had sex with a patient in his office, whether consensual or not 3 - he lied to the police on more than one occasion, for which he was indicted for. 4 - his wife divorced him, which was very ugly. The real victims in this whole thing are the Adams' children. They are both old enough to understand what their father is being accused of and have to suffer through all of it. I hope they can find some peace. Mark Adams should never be allowed to practice medicine again. I do think this has all been drug out too long. If the evidence is solid, take it through the legal system and be done. The same goes with the civil case. If everyone was waiting on the Adams' divorce to be final to use Mrs. Adams' testimony against Mr. Adams in either case, well, get on with it. The divorce is final from my understanding of previous articles. Quit dragging stuff out. Just get it over with already!

What an awesome experience for those fifth graders!!! I am sure that they were fascinated by the stories that they told. Thank you all for your service!! Thank you to all of the vets who took the time today to go and share their experiences with the younger generation! Colham Ferry was one of many schools that honored veterans today. Barrow Elementary in Athens and Jefferson City Schools did as well. So many times, we all get in such a hurry to get on with our lives that we forget to take a moment and speak to those that were here before we were. There are so many veterans around and you have probably met some in passing and not realized that part of their life was dedicated to serving our country. I went into the McDonald's on Broad Street quite regularly in the mornings for a while. One day a week, I noticed that there was a group of retired men that were in there always talking and having coffee. One day, I stopped and spoke to them. What I found out was that they were all vets who had fought in wars of years past. They had awesome stories to tell. A veteran does not necessarily mean that one is significantly older either. There are a lot of police officers that are vets as well. Please do not ever forget the service that they gave, the sacrifices that they made or the price of freedom that some paid with their lives. Please, never take that for granted and take the time to thank them for their service. Smile

Who really cares what the conditions were. There are laws in Georgia that are there to protect the newborns. Mom did not want the baby for ANY REASON - SO WHAT! She could have taken the baby to any hospital or police department and said "here, I don't want it." and she would have been fine. There is NO EXCUSE for her behavior. Sorry.
swhitney - Assault on an officer. Why no name?
Probably because the parking attendant is not an actual "officer" as the article implies??? From reading the headlines, you would have thought one of the Athens Clarke County Police officers had been hit. Not that it makes a difference, it is still wrong.

I would say that this would be a much more important investment for the ACC Government than red light cameras at Gaines School Road and Barnett Shoals Road. Use the money they plan on using for that on the school bus cameras instead. That would be a great idea!! It would make it a whole lot easier on the police officers to enforce the speed limits in the school zones if they would put them back like they used to be and not as short as they are now. The one at the Old Gaines School where Barrow is now goes from driveway to driveway, where it used to go from McDonald's to the street past Civitan Club Drive. Now, as it is, drivers can slam on the brakes, if they choose to actually slow down, right at the school and speed up at the edge of the building. I guess it does not matter that some parents actually park across the road and walk their child across the street or park down at the shopping center and walk. They are going to have to play chicken anyway. Angry

“From personal experience, I know that pepper spray has the ability to completely incapacitate a person,” the officer wrote in his report. “Being pepper-sprayed is the most pain I have ever felt in my life, and I consider it a violent assault.”

Wow. Worst pain ever?? I have no words.

She, on the other hand, should be locked away for quite a while. Maybe it will happen in Madison County.

Maybe Mr. Eberhart should walk over to Judge Stephens' courtroom. I guess they pick and choose who they want to defend in death penalty cases or they would be representing this defendant and not just the oxygen thief!!

I only have three questions. 1. What on earth was she doing out with a 1 year old and a 3 year old at 2am? 2. Why did the dude even have access to her kids? It takes a minute or two to get kids out of car seats. 3. Why did it take so long to report it? All of the alerts on the radio and tv as well as the media coverage was done this morning. That stuff gets put out immediately, but at 11am I hear on my radio the amber alert??? There is a whole lot more to this story than someone is telling.

Not going to happen. You can't sue the State. They have immunity. Just the way it is. Prayers to all involved.
carrie - And the DA says..I've not made up my mind about seeking the death penalty yet...another wimp in our judicial system.

Not necessarily. When a DA declares that he will seek the death penalty, a whole lot of processes begin which makes everything more difficult. It is better to let the GBI fully complete their investigation and have everything rock solid, turn it all over to the District Attorney and then let him declare he is seeking the death penalty. Think of Buddy's killer. Our local DA did not declare he was seeking the death penalty immediately. The legal aid death penalty lawyers from Atlanta came anyway and began demanding all kinds of stuff. They were politely told that the death penalty had not been declared and they had to wait. This enabled the prosecution to build a rock solid case. Then, the death penalty was announced. I think that it is a no brainer that the DA will seek the death penalty in this case. It is just sometimes better to do things the right way and not get caught up in what the public wants to hear and do what is best to have the right outcome in the end.

@just don't understand. You very clearly do not know Tony Howard. If you did, you would have never made such a ridiculous statement. Tony's family has always been taken care of and will continue to be taken care of. Even though Tony was badly hurt, he knows that he is still able to hug and kiss his children every single day and he is going to heal. I wish Buddy could do the same and so does Tony. Family takes care of family. Buddy, Tony and the other 230 ACCPD Officers are a big family. They take care of each other. Always have. Always will. It is obvious that it is one you are not a part of or you would not have said something so stupid!!!

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself. No cartoons on racism

As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
