@whatsthepoint: Well then, I take it back.

@BeagleDawg: Have you or anyone you know ever had a freedom taken away by the government or by "anti-rights radicals?" It's always just a "threat." Give it a rest and go take a walk and talk to people.
posted @ Saturday, May 4, 2013 - 18:18@BeagleDawg: Franklin was drunk and trying to impress a teenage girl when he said that. He was mostly right. But I'd bet that the parents of the kids killed in Connecticut would gladly give up a little bit of "liberty" to get their children back.
posted @ Saturday, May 4, 2013 - 18:15@TeeWee: I get that, have heard that. Yet I don't think the founders foresaw mass murders at elementary schools and movie theatres. (They probably didn't foresee movie theatres, for that matter.) Different times call for different laws. We as a people are armed to the friggin' gills. How about making it just a teewee bit tougher for lunatics to arm themselves for "combat?"

Where did he imply that?
[/quote]: When "Farmer" wrote that LBJ's war on poverty led to the massive breakdown of the the African America family, he/she's implying that they relied on government programs rather than hard work. Seemed pretty clear from his/her comment.
@Farmer GA: Let's not be so simplistic. The disparity of wealth that proliferated during the Reagan and Bush regimes have had a whole lot to do with the decline. Your implication that a whole race of people is comfortable living on handouts is repulsive.

Okay, we've wrestled this issue down and slapped it silly. I've tried throughout the day to offer a bit of good-natured sanity, and now I'm tired.

I'm too busy trying to figure out how to "bugger off" from a comments page to address the issue of homemade bombs. Anyway, I'm glad everyone here is feeling confident his rights to purchase truckloads of crazy weapons on demand are protected. Thanks for the fruitful discourse of ideas.
