What Others Say: How about some real late-night TV choice? (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

Yes, it is rather odd there are no prominent female late-night hosts. I guess that the genre is locked in tradition.

Mayor says Prince Avenue study has become 'political football'

@Athens Trojan: "Lazy-ass liberals?" Funny, I think I see all types using that crosswalk. Last week I saw a guy in a "Miss Me Yet?" T-shirt waddling across. I didn't miss him.

What Others Say: Court gives rich more influence over politics (The Kansas City Star)

The judges' rationale behind this ruling is quite lame. Even lamer is Mitch McConnell's assertion that the ruling "bolsters democracy."

Spitting and biting, Athens man fights with officers

@TMKvetch: Thanks for not "nutting up" like Chambers and several posters here. We don't really know what really happened. There are posters here calling for the death penalty for someone who's probably got mental issues; I've got a problem with that "solution."

Spitting and biting, Athens man fights with officers

@Meet_Joey_Black: I didn't read in the article that there was an initial crime. That might be why the guy didn't "know his place."

And are you people serious about shooting him and/or putting him away for good? Is a police state what we want?

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved.
