Athens man attacks cyclist, steals cash

So, today I had to get out my little revolver....

There has been a copperhead out here at Chez Jurassic that has gotten a little too familiar with the aviary where my rare parrots live...We brought them out from their winter lodgings Wednesday and the copperhead went straight for them... I shooed it away three times, but it kept coming back.

It was coiled up in a spot I could not reach, but it was waaay too close to my female Eclectus parrot named Lady (she is 28 years old)....My revolver hits a little high, but I got it on the second shot....I really didn't want to do it, it had just shed and was looking pretty, but I couldn't let it stay.

Cleaned the gun and put it up in it's proper place.... :kindasad:

*edited to add the winter lodgings part (They have their own building to live in for the winter)

Gunshot at rattlesnake leads to school lock down

Rattlesnake pieces, no bones, broiled 'till done, then slathered in buffalo wing sauce and stuck back under the broilers until the sauce is almost blackened.....serve with honey mustard and ranch dressing to dip into....

The fact that it is snake disappears into the ether when the saliva glands start to drool.... :yumnum:

Gun put to man's head at Bethel Midtown Village possibly misfired

Could have been bad ammo.....old maybe....stored in a moist location for a long time....

Could have been black market ammo, no telling what the bullets were filled with....but I kinda doubt black market, tho.

What with the shortage of some kinds of ammo, maybe the "iffy" rounds come out of storage..... Puzzled

Athens-Clarke County budget proposal includes mill rate bump, employee raises

Drove by the Park-N-Ride today...typically empty....but now the 'blown-on' grass is getting shaggy and the water retention area doesn't percolate like it should...

Do you think that the fence around the retention area will come before or after the cattail reeds grow and blow their heads?.... Puzzled

Rep. Regina Quick pulls no punches on Chamber scorecard

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

UPDATED: Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.   Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. read more
