The Editor's Desk: Voyager should be today's big story

I loved watching humans land on the moon....I feel that a space program is necessary, but I also know it is extraordinarily expensive.....

Sail on ,sail on, sailor...... Crown

The Editor's Desk: Lunchtime learning; Vacation coming

@Jim Thompson: and :jtsim: I don't understand the phenomenon that is Twitter.....I barely can keep up with cell phone calls and the text messages that arrive on my smart phone....and I don't get many of those....I just don't feel the need to check my phone every two minutes.....more like maybe a couple of times a day.....

I can't imagine keeping up with quick, supposedly intelligent banter in 140 characters or less all day long.....I'm tired just thinking about it..... Tired

I have MUCH better ways to use up the minutes I have left to me......

*oops, edited to put it this way: @jtsim: *

Roberts: Retirees 'abandoned' by Athens-Clarke government

The county government messed up way back when they promised a benefit, and then did not set up a separate account to hold the funds for that promised benefit....meaning the county is supposed to not touch that money for general funding......

BTW-The Federal government did the same thing with the funds for Social Security.... :sigh:

Ga. deer hunting season to open Saturday

Don't allow hunting up here...and the deer know it.... Smile

Small year round herd swells considerably at this time of year....We have enough woods and water to keep them fed and comfortable...and when the shooting stops, they melt back to the rest of the county....

Suspicious man attempts to take copper wire from Athens business

Bet his version of unloading the wire was to lower the tailgate and just roll the spools of cable right out, letting them land willy-nilly.....

Stores set opening dates for Epps Bridge Centre

The new Park-N-Ride at 10 Loop and Lexington might get full attendance for the first time today....

First home game day...lovely weather...bus ride to take you to Sanford Stadium...they may even have porta-potties brought in

ACC built a nice tailgate area with taxpayer dollars, didn't they?

PS-Wanna take bets on someone getting stuck in that muddy quagmire they call a retention pond?

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
