Sage advice for those gardening among deer

When the deer get hungry, they will eat almost anything.....this summer we had lots of rain, so there is lots of the native foliage for them to eat this year...

But for the years where the native foliage is not abundant, gardeners WILL have to do something about the deer.

Besides fences and dogs (not a guarantee there even) there are a few things that may deter them:

Stinky plants like mentioned in the article (add marigolds to that list)

For the plants that the deer love a gardener can mix a spray of water and red pepper seeds. Crush the seeds into a powder, mix with water and spray on the leaves. You will have to keep shaking the mixture to keep the pepper in solution. They may take a bite or two, but then spit it out.

And, if you can stand it.....use human urine. Male urine is better than female. Don't put it on the plants, but make a boundary line around the plants you want to save. First thing in the morning pee is best. If no human urine available Innocent use dog pee. The deer, like us, do not like the smell.... Wink

Park and Ride limps along, but Athens transit chief still hopeful

That is such a clustermess at Lexington/Oconee and the Loop there...who thought up that traffic pattern?

It would make it difficult to undertake something like the shopping experience at Epps Bridge at this location....that's assuming that ACC would like to have a shopping experience there at that intersection with the Loop....and receiving all of the resulting monies something like that would incur.... I know that that would mean the destruction of what is left of Tent City to do something like that....but, would that be such a bad thing?.....

I heard that ACC was strongly encouraged by the Feds to build, and showcase, the solar powered lights.....

And BTW-Any business that had a quagmire behind it, where someone could get trapped, would have an immediate order for fencing it in.....

Athens homicide parolee busted for drugs after traffic stop

For ACC, it is all about the money....if they let a criminal out early, they can start him/her on probation right away....save incarceration money there....

When a parolee is on probation, the probation officer keeps a (sorta) tight hold on the parolee... and why is that?....

When a parolee visits his/her parole officer, all that officer is concerned about is whether the parolee brought the fine money.....they may ask a few questions like: do still live at blah-blah-blah street?...is this still your phone number?....do you have a job or been looking?...oh, and they may ask if you been staying out of trouble as an after thought....but the parole officer's first question is always: did you bring the money (in the form of a certified check or money order) ?

Follow the money whenever something stinks..... Stare

Ga. deer hunting season to open Saturday
Stinky_Dawg_Luvin - taking its toll.
I rarely see any bucks anymore...there is one familiar four-pointer I see most often, I believe he is a year-rounder, but no other bucks...I know that bucks are the most often shot at....and that they are territorial...but in years past, I would see adult bucks/yearling bucks migrate here for hunting season....not so much anymore....

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself.
