Athens business, homes burglarized

I read the blotter to find out about crimes happening in my area, not who the victim is or where they work. A report about where a victim works rather than where a crime took place does not help me.

Man ordered to serve weekends in jail for Athens penis-shaking incident

All jokes aside (& there are some good ones!), I doubt he'll make it thru 18 mos of probation without ramping up to a more serious offense, likely something sexual.

Wrecked building a total loss at Arnoldsville crash scene
nocount - Troopers saw Webb cross a double yellow line, then force the truck to stop in the roadway by getting in front and stopping, according to the patrol.
I'm glad he didn't get hurt and that NO ONE ELSE was on that stretch of road when he was driving so recklessly. All he needed was a tag number to give to the property owner, & he could have gotten that without violating any traffic laws.

Family questions Savannah police over dog killing

The guilty dog barks first -- i.e. the owners. The original article reveals that the dog got out before & was aggressive before when it tried to get at a neighbor through a screen door. The owners themselves refer to it as a "bully breed." They are responsible for its every action & for the the police being forced to shoot it. They should be apologizing instead of questioning.

Dogs attack woman, who is flown to hospital

@cwillocks: A friend had to hide & call Animal Control because 2 Rottweilers who seemed aggressive came between her & her house. The "dogcatcher" told her a good thing to carry when out in the yard is an air horn, that it'll even back up a bear. I bought a small one at an auto supply store but haven't had to use it ... yet.

No. 6 Georgia takes rocky road to overtime victory against Tennessee

"severity of injuries...carted away from the sidelines...concussions...carnage"

I don't see anything to celebrate and I don't care if I am in the minority.

Trial to start for man accused of slapping toddler

Why? Well, maybe she's inexperienced at flying, or flying with children, or being a mom, or hears so much crying she has learned to deal with it. Rather ask why Mr. Hundley didn't punch himself in the face, put a pillow over his head, start crying for his own son's plight, or ask the flight attendants to help him. Him striking an innocent child was inexcusable.

Wife says George Zimmerman has changed since trial

The news(?) media may not have the good sense to move on, but I do -- I refuse to read another blow-by-blow, he said/she said word about the Z's divorce.

Georgia PSC may give $10K fine to anti-abortion group

This is the same as the state treas making the donation, since that is where the $10,000 fine should go. Regardless of the charity, how can this be right?

I read this because I did not believe there was such a charge as the headline said. The last line proves I was right. I suppose ABH deliberately used the misleading headline to invite sophomoric posts. Good job!

Couple walking dog threatened with gun

I wonder ....
...did the man have a permit to carry the gun in public as is the growing trend
...if so, wasn't it legal to point it at the perceived threat, dog not people
...what kind/size of dog - probably not a poodle
...why the dog who came at the man is not seen as the aggressor
...how the couple is said to have their dog under control if it is menacing people (a leash is not merely for snatching it back before it actually bites)

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
