JP attacks people by saying they seek to repress free speech....and then he goes on to say that ABH should repress free speech.
Not the brightest bulb in the bunch.
JP: "These people are a bad reflection on our community and on our nation as they demoralize and devalue America with their crude and vulgar epithets. They seek to repress free speech".....

Hmmm, I wonder what the deciding factor was that caused the residents of Joplin to be resilient, join together, and pull through....while the residents of New Orleans robbed each other, raped each other, looted, died, and gave up?
Guess we will never know....
Maybe we could have Government do a study to better understand.
bertisdowns - great column Dick: the line about "choice" not including making public schools better is exactly right. And it is good to see people starting to connect the dots between national privatization groups like ALEC, compliant politicians who pass these laws designed to undermine and disinvest in public schools, and the local drama of year after year of cuts to our school district budgets so that we can have arguments about what has to be cut and reduced. When we go to the doctor we know they live by the First Do No Harm code-- sadly our GA legislators seem to live by some sort of opposite credo.
Today's New York Times has a story up on our state's so-called tax-credit scholarship program, in which $50m+ of Georgia taxpayer funds go to a neo-voucher program paying for students to attend private and parochial schools:
It is long and involved but highly worthwhile-- lots of telling granular detail on how the scam really works. Just one more example of your legislators at work-- do you know a single Athens-area legislator who voted against the tax-credit scholarship scam? I don't, not even the one who doesn't live here.
Meanwhile our local district continues to fight gamely on-- and they are doing real well, all things considered.

What is it that liberals don't understand about giving mothers the right to choose their child's school? Liberals don't like free choice.posted @ Tuesday, May 22, 2012 - 07:56
Now days you have to explain to children: "it is very bad for people to touch your pee-pee or hiney hole UNLESS it is a Federal Government employee, then it is ok."
The Government employee just wants to make sure you don't hide explosives in your crotch, blow up the plane and kill everyone sweetie"
I believe it has more to do with underlying symptoms.
Who snores the most?= Overweight men and women
I would say it has more to do with weight and diet than actually snoring.
Kind of like saying people that snore are 3 times more likely to have Type 2 diabetes. Well, yeah people that snore are usually much heavier than the average person that doesn't snore, so most likely they would more often have Type 2 diabetes. But it isn't from their snoring.posted @ Monday, May 21, 2012 - 19:09

Between the pants being worn around the ankles, the car seats reclined so they can barely see over the steering wheel, and the blaring of rap music I can understand someone wanting to pull out a shotgun...or move to another community.posted @ Monday, May 21, 2012 - 10:00

The State is broke and liberals yell SPEND MORE TAXPAYER MONEY! The Country is broke and liberals yell SPEND MORE TAXPAYER MONEY!
When the State was flush with cash liberals yelled SPEND MORE TAXPAYER MONEY!
All of the acid from the 70's somehow but their brain on autopilot. Wear a tie die, mumble "peace" every so often, and anytime society wants to improve yell "SPEND MORE TAXPAYER MONEY".

Summary: Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
