Athens boy mauled, cop attacked by pit bull

I get so sick of seeing the old "bad owners make bad pets" excuse. Just look at the numbers, I'm sure there are some well tempered Pits out there. But these dogs have been bred to kill and maim, to bite and not let go. If you have children, or are going to have them in or near your home you should not own a pit. I've seen it firsthand, they are the sneakiest dogs I've ever seen before they attack. Go ahead, hit me with your stories of how your Pit is the sweetest dog you've ever owned and wouldn't hurt a fly. I'll share the pictures of children that have been maimed by this horrifying breed. You cannot remove this instinct.

Motorcycle stolen from Athens shop

I know a lot of people buy up the old CB's and put tens of thousands of dollars into them making them custom cafe racers... could be a cause of the price being so high.

Players, fans react to Grantham's departure on social media

Lol, I see a lot of folks happy Grantham is gone, and I hope he was the problem on Defense. But I think it has a lot more to do with all of our top in state players going to Bama, Auburn, and South Carolina. Recruiting has been down for years, and that falls on Richt. Just look at the defense the year before last, our best player was a USC (west) transfer, from Georgia, that ended up in California and we lucked out with him coming back. I'm just not so sure it's the coaching effort, more the poor recruiting.

Woman's tweet about AIDS outrages Internet

I can't get over the fact that she was a Director of Communications...she is either the worst person at her job in the entire world, or she was drunk. I'm hoping it was the latter.

Sportsman Pantry encourages hunters to help feed hungry, one buck at a time

@OCCountry: Yeah, apparently my reading comprehension skills are not working at all today. But I doubt the food bank is saying "here family of four here is your deer" and will distribute it as needed. If what you're saying is true then that is a good thing, and the processed deer and funding can go further than anticipated.

Sportsman Pantry encourages hunters to help feed hungry, one buck at a time

@OCCountry: I don't get your math... Say the portion of your meal is .5 lbs of meat (which would be a lot for an adult and too much for a child, but we'll roll with it). And say that each family member eats that amount for every meal (which is also unlikely). That would mean 42 lbs of meat will feed a family of four 3 times a day for a week. It's not rocket science.

Great program for a great organization.

Confinement, probation for ringleaders of UGA-based fake ID ring

Also, I know Trosclair's father. They are not the "well to do" family most of you judgement casters have accused him of being. I love how so many of you cast derision and animosity toward these guys, when I guarantee 90% of you drank underage. Kind of makes me sick to my stomach the comments on this board, considering you and I know close to nothing about these guys. I love how some of you can take so much from a simple mugshot..."spoiled" "brats". Sometimes I wonder who the lowlifes really are...

Confinement, probation for ringleaders of UGA-based fake ID ring

Seriously calm down folks, what they did was illegal and wrong. As for myself I'm much more inclined to get criminals with violence or weapons charges off the street than these guys. Keep in mind they are 22 now, they ran fake ID's when they were 19. They got caught and are going to do their time. But they've kept their nose clean for 3 years now, so it doesn't look to me like they are the "career criminals" most of you are making them out to be. Long Sufferer is right, these kids made fake ID's, they didn't rob or kill anybody. And if you are so stubborn as to think college age kids won't find ways to drink I have some oceanfront property right here in Athens to sell you. The punishment is actually right on for this case.

ESPN's College GameDay returns to Athens for Georgia-LSU game

The hell with Finebaum and his over inflated sense of self.

UGA fans one and all GIVE METTENBERGER HELL!

Why should we praise a kid that was given a scholarship, had hold of the starting QB position and then poof, sexual battery charge gets him kicked off the team. LSU can cheer him all they want, they can cheer his redemption and second chance all day long. But Finebaun is a bonehead if he thinks UGA owes this kid anything. UGA fans need to make this day the longest of Mett's life, and Finebaum needs to get a pad, he's leaking a bit...

Statham gallery to host regional art show
grove600 - "Downtown Statham" and"fine art"? Something's wrong with this picture.
C'mon grove. Downtown Statham is actually kinda lovely. Free parking, cute shops, and it doesn't smell like vomit and urine 24/7 like downtown Athens. Sorry to say I'd rather see fine art in downtown Statham than fight/pay/hate to get anywhere in downtown Athens.

Last of 21 students indicted in alleged UGA fake ID ring surrenders

Imagine the resources that went into this. They spent 2 years investigating before handing out indictments. If even one of these kids go to jail, it will be the perfect example of what is wrong with our legal system. Violent criminals getting off on technicalities, and being released into society time and time again. But god forbid a college kid that can go to war for his or her country go get a beer at a bar. It just seems that the priorities of some of our law makers and keepers are severely out of line.

Bicycle ride from New York to Georgia to benefit Tripp Halstead

I@nohatersallowed: Tell me exactly what I said that is rude? Have you ever gone to sleep wondering if your child was going to survive the evening? I have, more times than I'd ever thought, and so have the Halsteads. The difference is my story didn't make the news, and thousands of other families didn't either. I mean no offense to them at all, I pointed out a fact that you clearly couldn't handle. The deed is wonderful, I said that in my previous post, so your comprehension skills need some work. But the fact remains this size gift could help more than one family. I won't respond to any further posts from you, you've not been in my shoes and I meant absolutely no offense to the Halsteads.

Bicycle ride from New York to Georgia to benefit Tripp Halstead

This is great for Tripps family, and such a wonderful gift. But I have to say...where is the support for other childrens families in need? Having spent months myself at Childrens and seeing all the children (my own included who has had 4 heart surgeries) struggling to survive many different ailments in that hospital it somewhat saddens me for all the families with sick/injured children that don't make the news and don't get the national attention this story has. This might come off as rude, but I don't intend it to be, I'm simply pointing out that Tripps family has been gifted a LOT of money...but there are so many other families in similar situations that don't make the news and don't get any help.

Food Bank of Northeast Georgia distributes 12 millionth pound of food
King Minos - @mpd0.59: Thanks for the link! I heard a Food Bank, rep, again on Tim Bryant's WGAU show this morning reiterating the information already printed as a "news" item in the Sunday ABH. Unlike you, mpd, I don't believe it is a newspaper's responsibility to help out with self-serving, one-sided happy news; in fact, if journalists simply reiterate press releases, they shouldn't call them selves journalists but, maybe, public relations workers. Are you in the PR business, I wonder?

Jeez... your misplaced criticism could ruin an orgasm.

Food Bank hosting Empty Bowl Luncheon today at Classic Center

From the mind of queenarlene...

After this last election, I do believe birth control should be added to drinking water !!!

Let me help you here, I know for a fact that all agencies the food bank provides food for are monitored on a yearly basis. I know for a fact that the food bank is audited by USDA, Feeding America, and the AIB. That Palm House, regardless of your views, is a non-profit assisting those in need (whether you see it that way or not) making them eligible for certain food items at the food bank. Looking back at your comments you seem quite angry, maybe you should evaluate your own convictions instead of opening your mouth and revealing them.

Get locked up for 'unlocking'?

@Anonymous Dude: Lmao, you truly believe that after all the assembly, packaging, shipping, research, marketing and advertising, development, design elements, and the production of the cell phone costs less than $200? I'll say you're part right though, the raw materials equal out to like $180 or something. But Apple charges $500-600 per phone to each cell carrier, somebody has to make up that loss, and when consumers jump carriers, the cell phone companies lose money on a subsidized device...simple as that.

Get locked up for 'unlocking'?

I can't believe I'm fixing to stand up for cell phone companies, but you boneheads are making it so....

Do you think that brand new iPhone really costs $200 to make? No. A more informative article would have told you that you can spend $650 on a new iPhone (or similar device) and you CAN unlock it and use it on whatever carrier you wish (out of contract). They ONLY reason folks get deals on phones is because they are subsidized through the 2 year contracts you sign up for. This is why America is going down the crapper, no understanding of simple business principles or common sense.

Georgia QB Murray to return for senior season with title on mind, records in reach

I don't think waiting will help his draft stock at all honestly. The main knock on Aaron is his size...and unless he's going to grow 4 inches before next year it doesn't make a difference. The QB draft class is really weak this year, in my opinion he would have had a better shot this year than next in landing a playing role on an NFL team. But, he is close to his degree, and more importantly this is his decision...not mine... Feel bad for Hutson Mason though...

Official: 27 dead - 18 children - in Conn. school shooting

Such a tragedy, what drives someone to do this kind of thing? Scary and extremely sad.

It is not the time to talk about gun control, but come of folks. Do you think criminals just walk into Franklins and buy guns? If you take guns away from law abiding citizens it will not stop criminals from acquiring them. Drugs are illegal, and how well does that work for keeping them out of the hands of those that want them?

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself.
