@kate11: whoa whoa there! I didn't say anything negative about this girl. People make mistakes. She made a big one. I don't have any control over that. She made her facebook profile, not me. She put herself out there on the internet. I had nothing to do with that. A 5 second google search revealed her facebook page. I was curious if we had mutual friends (we do). I see this is your first post. It is common around these parts to post a link to a facebook page to give a little depth to the article. Heck, mainstream network media uses facebook pictures from people's profiles every single day. Relax. Clearly no one else cares as there haven't been any other comments on this story. Heck, I don't even care. I'm simply thankful she didn't hit anyone while driving on the curb.posted @ Monday, May 20, 2013 - 21:40

I read somewhere it was an Eagle Scout at the drive-thru who was also an employee. He was waiting on his food and it was taking a bit longer than usual. It was nearly closing time (I thought these places were 24 hours?), and the detective was getting agitated waiting in line. Video didn't show the kid doing anything disrespectful. I sure hope more comes out because it's a bit confusing based on the video footage as to what the kid did to set off the cop.posted @ Thursday, April 18, 2013 - 00:31

Oconee Street Methodist is the sweetest and most generous little church I've experienced in this town. That little old building is full of so much generosity and love. My heart hurts for them. They go to incredible lengths to serve fringe of this community.posted @ Tuesday, April 16, 2013 - 09:35

It's a bit vague but the article implies he did not know she was under age. This is a bigger problem than we think. Sure, these creeps like young looking girls. Our culture sets men up for it, but girls; especially some girls just discovering the power of their sexuality are not fully honest with men. Both sides are looking for a thrill and it holds dire consequences for everyone involved, more so to the adult in the situation.posted @ Friday, April 12, 2013 - 20:51

I feel terrible for the family. A TV and computer are one thing. Family images on the computer are another and beating a living animal is wholly separate. Not only will the family be stuck with vet bills and an injured dog, the dog's life is forever changed due to this brutality. The dog will never be the same.posted @ Friday, April 12, 2013 - 17:38

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more
The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.
