What do people mean, 'let's not blame the mother' ? I blame her. She placed her child in danger. Of course she didn't mean for this to happen, but as parents we must do all we can to keep our children protected, which means not leaving them unattended in a car no matter what time of day!
posted @ Wednesday, May 22, 2013 - 09:49Okay, you mean to tell me that as a parent you thought it was acceptable to leave your baby unattended in a car at midnight?? Child endangerment is what I call this kind of poor judgement!!

posted @ Wednesday, February 20, 2013 - 22:35
zillybong - It is against the law for anyone under 21 to drink or even possess alcohol. Doesn't mean they don't do it! Every weekend you can see hundreds of underagers staggering around downtown. "18 to party, 21 to drink" is the biggest joke in Athens and EVERYONE knows it...especially the cops and govt. people...underage drunks and DUI's are one of their BIGGEST sources of income so they LOOK THE OTHER WAY and we will continue to see tragedies like this one AS LONG AS THEY DO. You can't have your cake and eat it too!

All reports I have read say the suspected driver was 22 years old. You are not the first to comment about under-age drinking, but 22 is legal...

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.
