@keepitsimple: Ummmmm....let me shoot him an email. We can't be losing our Real Estate Expert (and a genuinely nice person) to A/C repair! Yikes.
posted @ Monday, August 15, 2011 - 12:36I love those Little Debbie brownies, but I never buy them. Bad. Bad. Bad. But, ohhhhhhhh, so good...
I can remember (growing up) the big, green dumpsters that were sprinkled around town. We were all welcome to use them and that was how we got rid of our trash. Of course, there was hardly any recycling back then, but disposal was convenient, inexpensive and there was no need for special bags or long trips out to the 'dump.' I pay for pick-up now and- while it's a lot more convenient and I'm happy to be able to afford the option- those bills really start adding up...

What will be my "daily" gripe (over the next nine months or so...) is college students who think it's perfectly acceptable to BLAST their radios in the front yard at all hours of the day and night. (Grrrrrrrrrrr!)

She shakes and trembles (not a chihuahua) and wants inside. (Shes an outside dog.) Does she need, or can she get, some kind of medicine to control her anxiety?
@Dr. Elder: Welcome to Athens Talks! We're glad to have you here!
I'm having the SAME problem with my small terrier mix. It's awful! He barks and runs back and forth with high anxiety, and there's no comforting him. This can go on for HOURS.
posted @ Tuesday, August 9, 2011 - 19:43@keepitsimple: Haha! I've told this story numerous times. The guy was technically my boss, but he couldn't have fired me without the approval of the higher-ups, which he wouldn't have gotten. However, I learned my lesson, for sure. My "boss" actually was a really likeable guy, but not a great guy to work with or for.
posted @ Tuesday, August 9, 2011 - 12:00
keepitsimple - As of now @Zack: has his hands full trying to give us the best site possible. @Joel: Is busy as a bee with the Online side and interns. @Andrea: has so many jobs she can't keep up.
People are complaining about it, I personally am putting forth effort to stay out of the back and forth fights. I hope all of you might try to also.
Obviously, the best threads are the ones that stay on topic (duh). I don't care if you guys argue and fight... it happens. Just argue and fight about the topic at hand and stop going off on personal attacks, please.
Having said that, here's the main issue for me, right now and it's a big one. I'm hearing that many people DON'T or WON'T comment (even long-term members) because they're afraid of or tired of being "attacked" over their opinions. My job is to grow this community and if people are dropping out because they don't feel comfortable participating, then it becomes a major issue that I have to solve somehow.
I DO have many jobs, but Talks is one that I'm heavily invested in and enjoy. I helped build this from the ground up, and I don't want to see this platform suffer, because people are becoming afraid to jump in and interact. What's the solution? I'm hoping you guys will understand my position and choose your battles and your words a bit more carefully.
Yep. It would definitely be nice if y'all could figure out a solution FOR me. Haha.
BullJacket - I don't sleep much at all maybe 2 to 3 hours a night.
I know others who only need a few hours a night. Gosh, I could get so much accomplished if I didn't spend so much time in BED!
posted @ Tuesday, August 2, 2011 - 12:27
Lagniappe81 - 1. The complaint made the front page of the newspaper.
This thread did not make the front page of the paper. OnlineAthens.com is a news and information site powered by journalists. Athens Talks is powered by the community who uses it. We have a small box on the front of the website where users can click through to read opinions and participate in various discussions, but Talks is not and has never been promoted as or claimed to be a news site.
posted @ Sunday, July 31, 2011 - 23:42After receiving flags and complaints on this thread, I want to warn you guys that we don't allow comments that attack a person's character or that make UNFOUNDED claims. If you have a bad experience at a business, that's YOUR experience and that's fine. An honest review is something that every public person, business owner, etc. must endure. However, I'm going to pull any comments that are downright malicious. There's no need for mudslinging and, from now on, I'm going to keep a close eye on any thread of this nature. If you have a complaint or an honest review, we welcome it, but please think about the words you're using to deliver it BEFORE you add it to this forum...
posted @ Sunday, July 31, 2011 - 23:27@artemis4951: I was driving home one night and stopped at the end of Pulaski Street at the stop sign. This girl, dressed in pajamas, carrying a backpack and crying her eyes out, was walking alone. She asked me for a ride, which I gave her because she looked like a young girl in crisis, even though I felt a little nervous about it.
She told me she didn't have any money and I think I forked over about $14 bucks. Then, I dropped her off at someone's house.
A month or so later, I saw her mug shot in the paper. Busted for prostitution.
So sad...
@keepitsimple: Let me go back and look. My REMOVE button isn't working right this morning. Haha.
I WILL say that I was highly amused by this post and my boss was laughing hysterically when he called me to tell me I'd better check on it.
Crazy kids...
posted @ Thursday, July 28, 2011 - 11:25Pretty! I've never been a girl who likes big houses and lots of stuff, however, I am a FIRM believer that a house should be beautiful, comfortable and full of things we love. After all, it's a place where we make many of our memories, and it should reflect the needs and wants of the person who's living in that space.
Am I ever going to have a home that's huge and designed to the hilt? No, probably not. That's not my style. (I mean, I lived in a two room cottage in the middle of the woods for years!) But, I certainly like to take all of these pictures and pull ideas from them.
posted @ Thursday, July 28, 2011 - 11:23@davidxto: You're in fine standing with the ABH staff, and you can joke all you want to with us. It's definitely nothing personal.
Maybe we should talk about how long it takes PM to make a pot of coffee?
Coffee, my friends, we're talking COFFEE! Try to get your minds out of the gutter and stay focused...
Now, I'm going to make some (which happens to be from Starbucks). Sigh. I can remember when @Robyn was here and had it waiting on me. Hopefully, we'll drive @Zack to drink soon and he can pick up the slack. Haha.
posted @ Thursday, July 28, 2011 - 10:50Interesting. I had a dream night before last that I watched as a plane flew overhead, flipped and crashed in a fiery explosion. I ran as fast as I could to grab my video gear and get to the scene, but I couldn't seem to move fast enough. Finally, a guy offered to drive to me and the ceiling of his truck was so low, I felt like I couldn't breathe... Hmmmmm....

posted @ Tuesday, July 26, 2011 - 12:07Wow. I didn't expect this thread to be so confrontational, especially on a restaurant review!
The way I see it, Weaver D's is a restaurant that's managed to stay open all these years, while many others have failed. Every time I've been by, it's been pretty crowded too. Judging by both, I'd say they must be doing SOMETHING right.
I like many eateries that my friends don't care for and vice versa. The beauty of Athens is that, if you don't like one place, you just have to walk a few steps to another.
BTW, I think this might be my favorite comment of the day, so far:

Now, y'all try to be nice. I've gotta decide whether I'm having "soul food" or "townie food" for lunch...

posted @ Monday, July 25, 2011 - 13:46Obviously, we're adjusting to losing a member of our team. However, making sure the site is up and our community's needs are met is part of our jobs (especially mine). Having "lives" or not getting messages, etc. is not an excuse and we all know that. We're in the process of making adjustments, so please "bear" with us. Like I said, I'm on my cell 24/7 and I get all emails, flags and mentions immediately (even on the weekends). I try my best to respond to them as soon as I can and- if the site goes down- if I get an email, I'll do my best to get it taken care of. Your patience is appreciated.
@keepitsimple: Now, that's not true. I saw your TWITTER post last week! I used to get lots of emails when there were problems, but not lately. I do keep my phone on me 24/7 with email, flag and mention alerts, although I have to turn it off when I go to sleep, otherwise, it's going off every 5 minutes, all night long.

Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. Highlight: Would set hours of operation of each Athens-Clarke County "building campus" -- e.g. City Hall, the courthouse and Dougherty Street government building -- at 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Park hours would either be set by the Athens-Clarke County manager or the Mayor and Commission. The ordinance has been derided by members of Occupy Athens and others as seeking to enforce a curfew on public property, thus damaging their First Amendment right to peacably assemble for long-term protests. read more
