Whoa. Good one...
posted @ Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - 16:19Love it. Thanks for sharing. And- just for the record- from the comfort of my chair, with a beer in hand and a bucket-o-chips, I watched those boys 'til the very end. Looking forward to South Carolina!!!! Go Dawgs!
glory - any way you can remove the other thread? I started 2 by accident.
Done.
Wow. This is actually a good topic... I'm anxious to hear what you guys think...
(The article has video of the employees of the car wash holding the suspect down. He later died.)
posted @ Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - 13:13I LOVE winter white! I think, these days, especially in Athens, pretty much anything goes...
Anyone seen any winter fashion that they absolutely WOULDN'T wear?
I ran across a sweater with a hood the other day that literally looked like the model had a blanket dropped on her head. It was bizarre but- apparently- very fashionable. Haha.
posted @ Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - 13:04I actually have to be connected 24/7 for my job here (especially since I've slipped into a new position that deals more with the newsroom). My phone literally goes off every five minutes. Guess what gives me the MOST emails? FLAGGED COMMENT notifications! (Shocking! Haha.)
All day and all night...
I also get a ton of emails that are complaints over the he said/she said that goes on here. But, I don't mind. Never a dull moment.
My friends text (or call) me, so I'm always happy to see a text come in.
My facebook page is a mixture of work and friends, so that messaging system stays pretty active too.
posted @ Friday, September 2, 2011 - 09:28One of my best friends is going through it right now. She was diagnosed at 39 and doesn't have a family history.
It's been quite the ordeal, but she's plowing through the treatments and emotional turmoil like a champ.
This is her blog:

Anyone else? Have you volunteered in previous years or did you volunteer on Wednesday?
posted @ Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 14:53@SmartAzz: I'm not sure. I watched a documentary about the civil rights movement a few weeks ago, and it made me really emotional. Something like that would be worth getting arrested for...

I came back to write again and something needed to be done, so I walked away again. By the time I got back and posted it was already on here. Y'all stop beating me to the good stories!!! haha!
jtsim - You posted that so I could ask you this. What is up with the "Spotted Section"? Today's seemed to promote drinking by young people. Is this what we want folks to think about UGA?
Well, that's a SPECIAL Spotted section that focuses on Athens nightlife. If you look through, there are LOTS of galleries that have college students at fundraisers, games, events, etc. that don't have anything to do with drinking. However, this section is from downtown at night, so the photos are typically taken at bars. We do, however, try not to show anyone who looks intoxicated or is doing something inappropriate...
Maybe we'll send someone out to cover Wal-Mart at midnight. Haha.

@davidxto: Nope. No bologna eatin' here. I'm not much of a meat-eater, sooooo I'll take the report! Bad Bad Bad! Haha.
@Eschaton: Hmmmm...pepper jack? Never tried that on grits before. I'll have to make it a point!
posted @ Tuesday, August 23, 2011 - 13:20
Eschaton - Anonymous Dude - where are the grits
Grits with cheese - gotta have the cheese.
Yep, GOTTA have the CHEESE... (Yum!).
I'm not really sure about this bologna biscuit, I'm hearin' about. Although it sounds MUCH better than the SPAM on bread my mother used to force me to eat. Haha. (Blah!)
@cathead96 @northsider: Okay guys, I just wanted to jump in before we have an issue and my inbox starts filling up with complaints and flagged comments again. Y'all play nice, please. Disagreements and debate are one thing, but these jabs and back-and-forths bog down the threads...
OH, and if it all becomes TOO tempting, don't forget that we designed an IGNORE feature that works really, really well...
It IS kind of busy, but it's pretty...
posted @ Monday, August 22, 2011 - 15:14I happened to run into 'The Hoose' at Friday night's show. There were so many people PACKED into the theatre that I literally poked him in the arm twice thinking he might not have recognized me the first time. The show was great (both Corey Smith and Sunny Ledfurd), but JV's right. There were SO many college students there, I felt like I was stuck in a student section. And getting bounced around, stepped on and having drinks spilled on me all night, really sort of put a damper on the evening. Especially since I wasn't drinking and everyone around me was blotto...
Anyway, I'd love to see them both play again, but I'll pick a venue where the old folks (like me) can sit or get there super early to snag a stool at the Ga Theatre.

I was behind on my pup's heartworm meds and the mosquitoes have been terrible around my house this year. I Googled what happens when dogs get heartworms and it scared the bejeezus out of me. That little dog went directly to the vet for his annual checkup!

As a huge Backstreet Boys fan, I was little perplexed on reading Nick Carter?s book. It?s not like reading a book about Elvis Presley or The Beatles. I didn?t live through those moments. I didn?t see them in person. But as someone who has followed Nick?s career since I became a fan in 1998, not just in the Backstreet Boys, but as a solo artist, I?ve always thought we had a lot in common besides being the same age. read more

The Athens Banner-Herald sports staff combined to win 11 individual awards on Sunday at the Georgia Sports Writers Association's annual meeting in Marietta. The awards were for the sports staff's work in 2012. read more
