22 cities in danger of a double-dip recession
http://money.cnn.com/2010/08/17/news/economy/cities_risk_double_dip/inde...

"A new report from Moody's Economy.com singled out 22 cities that are at risk of slipping back into a recession in as early as three months.

To come to this conclusion, the economists considered dwindling
progress in employment, housing starts, home prices and industrial production."

Looking at the link, one can read that Athens, GA is one of the 22.

Also, instead of buying Israel jets, can't the USA government help Americans?

"Israeli defense minister Ehud Barak approved an order for 20 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters in a deal valued at around $2.75 billion, according to Haaretz. The Israeli Air Force expects to take delivery of the first aircraft in 2015. The article quotes Barak saying the F-35 costs $96 million a copy. The entire deal will be funded by American military aid.

The F-35 deal had dragged for more than two years as the IAF wanted access to the plane’s hardware and software; they also wanted to install Israeli electronic warfare and configure it to carry Israeli-made missiles. The JSF program folks said no, that the deal was a “closed package.”

Although, if the Israelis place a larger order down the road, the JSF program said more Israeli-sourced components could be installed. To sweeten terms of the deal, Lockheed Martin agreed to buy more component parts for the JSF from Israeli firms; at a price of around $4 billion.

So, the IAF gets a squadron of F-35s, Israeli industry gets more orders for JSF components, and its all paid for by American taxpayers; certainly a win-win for the Israelis."

Athens-Clarke County reconsiders shutting off dozens of streetlights

@Fritz:

$12 billion a month on the "war"...the USA becoming more of a police state...people can't understand that they are being played as fools by the global elite that transcend the false left vs. right, demo vs rep. paradigm...regarding "education", John Taylor Gatto has it right, but at least one young student understands some things:

Fritz, you mentioned unemployment? "Right now, if measured according to the methodology of 1980, the US unemployment rate is about 22%."-Paul Craig Roberts

"...nobody seems to care because they can tell you the latest from American Idol but can't name their elected officials? Sounds like a prescription for end times, my friends."--Fritz

Fritz, you are right my friend.

To end, again the words of Paul Craig Roberts, "You don’t have to be smart to see that Wall Street’s and the government’s response to the amazing US budget deficit is not to stop the senseless wars and bailouts of mega-millionaires..."

Neighbours, please don't get caught up in the false paradigms. The global elite are waging a war against us.

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
