Hmmmm . . . it seems that Ms. Quick is not your average lock-step-zombie elected Republican representative.
We shouldn't be surprised if the Teanderthal wing of the GA GOP tries to "primary" her next year.
@RoyBoy:
RoyBoy - It is a sad commentary that today's Republican agenda is based on negatives: They don't want gays.
They don't want "refugees".
They don't want college students, the poor, or elderly voting.
They don't want labor unions.
They don't want to fund public education.
They don't want women making their own medical decisions.
They don't want to expand health care to all citizens.
They can "take it to the democrats" by working with them on positive legislation rather than working to stonewall the President.
ALL the GOP has been peddling for the past 6 years is *Fear and Loathing*. They got absolutely nothing positive on their "action agenda" for the USA, except protecting their bosses, the 1%; and thwarting everything that the Dems offer, because, FREEDOM.
Their collective hypocrisy is breathtaking.
ProudSoutherner - I thought Romney was quite a good candidate but the liberal media attacked him non-stop.
If there were less moochers in this country he'd be President right now and Obama would be back in Kenya or Indonesia or some other muslim country.
ProudSoutherner:
1. you are a braying embarrassment to Southerners;
2. FAUXNews and H8 Radio have viciously attacked and vilified President Obama 24/7 non-stop since *January 19, 2009* - but of course, you enjoyed that;
3. you're a religious bigot; and
4. <*PTOOOIE!*> - because clicking "-" is not enough.
I wish modern-day politicians would concentrate on FIXING what's wrong with government, rather than being bellicose ideological jerkoffs who would rather see America fail, than see the policies of "the evil opposition" prevail.
What we have ended up with, is America waging war on itself. NO WONDER the American Empire is in decline.

1. As to the original issue of this thread - I believe there are two rational responses to the notion of religious materials placed in State of Georgia facilities: "ALL or NONE". Either EVERYBODY may put their proselytizing propaganda in the bedside tables, or NOBODY may.
IF I were governor of this officially secular state, I'd order: "Keep ALL that divisive crap OUT of state-run facilities!"
2. My personal opinion is that the "holy scriptures" of the big three western religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, are all based on the mythology of "Father Abraham", who was apparently a grade-A schizophrenic, as was his alleged deity. When I look at the pre-scientific, misogynistic, bloodthirsty, barbaric, Bronze Age teleology of the Middle Eastern "Invisible Omnipotent One True SkyGod™", I wonder WHO can believe this irrational stuff?
And then I remember, we humans will swallow any amount of bilgewater and horsesh!t, if swallowing it means "Life *After* Death", in "heaven". We are scared to death of our own mortality.
3. The myths and neuroses of our personal childhood, like the myths and neuroses of our species' childhood, linger long past their "use by" date. Rather than being "born again" into a perpetual child-like status, let us "grow up" and become spiritually autonomous creatures. And let's send ALL of the rabbis, priests, imams, ministers, televangelists, and other hucksters to the unemployment rolls.
posted @ Tuesday, May 21, 2013 - 08:44When the candidates are this closely bunched, look to see one of them engage in some seriously deranged teanderthal a$$holery to separate himself/herself from the pack, and to lock in the mean-spirited GOP Primary base.
Let the hilarity ensue!
posted @ Sunday, May 19, 2013 - 10:28LOL!! The GOP has NO interest in governing this country. The GOP is only interested in their self-masturbatory Political Theater.
E.G., voting to repeal the Affordable Healthcare Act THIRTY-SEVEN times, expecting a different result.
E.G., Trying to make a mountain out of a molehill with the absurd made-up "Benghazi Scandal". Also, falsifying and misquoting Administration Emails on the subject. (All the while conveniently ignoring the Greatest Scandal - the 9/11 bombings which the Bush Administration knew of, in advance.)
E.G., the GOP lambastes PBO over "jobs" but the GOP has introduced -zero- jobs bills since 2008.

I agree that paul broun is a mental case who panders to the most base emotions in the voters of our district.
I also think that a CEO is the LAST damn thing we need making decisions which affect people's lives; CEOs are profit-driven predators see human beings as costly "overhead" to be minimized.
posted @ Wednesday, May 15, 2013 - 11:20TEN-PLUS YEARS of the Bush/Obama Perma-War Against the Middle East.
*cui bono?* Who profits?
The answer is that the Perma-War is being fought for the sake of Perma-War, to make the Military/Industrial Complex boys as rich as Croesus.
There is no other rational explanation for TEN YEARS of expensive bloodshed, with practically NOTHING to show for it, except the deaths of tens of thousands of US military invaders and Iraqi, Afghani, Libyan, Yemeni, Pakistani, and other Middle Eastern natives.
And now, Iran and Syria are in the warmongrels' sights.
And yet, the MSM, and the Democrats, and the Republicans, ALL treat the Perma-War as "a given", like the weather.
It ain't right.

Here is Jon Stewart's takedown and analysis of the hypocritical FAUXNews FAUX Outrage RE: Benghazi.

All the while we run a *Gulag* full of political prisoners, 90 miles offshore. (Keeping in mind that one man's "terr-ist" is another man's "freedom fighter", and that History will be written by the winners.)
This is a good time to ask; WHY the 10+ year old Bush/Obama Perma-War Against the Middle East is treated as "a given", like the weather??
posted @ Tuesday, May 7, 2013 - 16:31Well now, hopefully, used2B feels validated, and he will stop behaving like a mental patient, highjacking EVERY comment thread with his "benghazi, benghazi" monomania.

NOT
OUR

LOL! At this rate, the RNC will need to lend the GOP Krazy Klown Kar to Georgia!
And just like 2012, the GOP candidates will be required to "Out-Krazy" each other, pandering to the reliable low-information voters who turn out in large numbers to "vote against" [insert GOP wedge issue here].
The sad news for the people of the State of Georgia, is that there IS NOBODY who can out-krazy small paul broun, the conservative cloun. NOBODY!

And, if it is at all possible, I buy American-made goods before I buy chinese-made-crap. I buy from mom-and-pop shops, evan though I pay more, rather than set foot in the Big Box Store. And I buy in Athens before I buy in Atlanta, or out-of-state, or online. I have loyalty to my local businesses.
What about YOU, Used2B, Other than the disinformation spewed by FAUXNews and Hate Radio, what do YOU consume locally?
America's "Job Creators" at work in Asia, so that YOU can purchase unnecessary plastic and textile objects at The Big Box Store *for cheap*.
Of Course, a number of dark-skinned locals get dead producing your cheap objects in lethal working conditions, but hey!, that's just a cost of doing unregulated business.
God Bless Our Benevolent Corporate Overlords!

The Forces of Darkness tell these malignant little trolls to GO FORTH, AND ASTROTURF the local newsies with their benghazi conspiracy jibber-jabber, and eventually the lumpenproletariat will *believe* it!
I got ONE word for TWO halfwit trolls:
<*PTOOOOOOIE!!*>
ANOTHER excellent reason why we must not involve ourselves in Syria, is because the Syrian civil strife is . . .
NOT.
OUR.
BUSINESS.
Ignoring, if I may, the idiotic, imaginary, and unhinged Benghazi conspiracy jibber-jabber; the MSM has decided that we-the-people need to talk about *Syria*.
Bush: "Iraq has weapons of mass destruction - we MUST invade."
Obama: "Syria is using chemical weapons against its citizens - we MUST ACT".
Sound famiLIAR?
We are now entering the ELEVENTH YEAR of the Bush/Obama Perma-War Against the Middle East. Profits are way UP for the American warmongrels; not so much for the locals whose nations the US Military has invaded.
What good things can we list as accomplishments for 10 years of blood and money poured into the desert sands? - anybody?

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.
