It bothers me a lot to know that common sense has been removed from legislating. How hard can it be to enforce a law where if a person uses illegal drugs, well, that person must let go of the government teet. Or be forcibly removed from it.

Athens woman killed in collision with truck

Excessive speed combined with cogested traffic have resulted in multiple accidents at this curve on Jefferson rd. The lack of turn and deacceleration lanes compound this latest and needless tragedy. Now it is a nightmare for this poor family. My prayers go out to them.

A crumbling Sochi hides behind Olympic facades

"While state-run TV trains its cameras on luxury malls, sleek stadiums and high-speed train links, thousands of ordinary people in the Sochi area put up with squalor and environmental waste: villagers living next to an illegal dump filled with Olympic construction waste, families whose homes are sinking into the earth, city dwellers suffering chronic power cuts despite promises to improve electricity."

If you were to substitute the terms MSNBC, the Obama regime, and Detroit as it has "flourished" under Democratic leadership for the past half-century, I think that you would have a pretty much parallel universe complete with images!

GOP Senate candidates meet for 1st debate of 2014

From a libertarian perspective, Paul Broun has the best voting record. However, when he "preaches to his choir " he manages to get both feet into his mouth. But, keep in mind that our current VP can run circles around Paul in the stupid things caught on tape category! And the low info idiots from Deleware keep voting for him.

Athens police ask public's help in identifying fraud suspect

I am just wondering where in the conversation this is :

"Gee Ms. XXX, the signature you just gave me sure doesn't match what I have here on the signature card. The photo is a little off, also. Let me call my supervisor and see what she has to say..."

It is at that point that the security cameras would be filming someone rapidly leaving the bank, I would imagine.

Four Brothers Sports Tavern coming to Mitchell Bridge

Gee, I'm totally flabbergasted to read about the demise of another Mexican restaurant in a high-end establishment. It seems that lately these Mexican restaurants are springing up at the same rate as the undocumented aliens were crossing the Rio Grande back in the construction heyday of 2006.

Dangerous cold descends on Athens, schools cancel classes

When I was a boy, I had to walk 7 miles through the snow every day to get to school. And it was uphill in both directions. And we didn't have anything to eat, so we ate wool sweaters! And we liked it!
Big smile

Woman finds snake in couch brought home from curb
yeti -
I found another article where she said it was "white snake" on her couch. She tried to give it care, but she could not help it.
Well, you've got to give that woman credit for trying to rehabilitate a lethargic and dying eighties metal band!

North Dakota mayor: Town narrowly avoids disaster in fiery train derailment

I can't help but wonder if this would never have happened but for the Keystone pipeline being in place... But, no, the liberals and tree huggers will never ever have that. They would rather rely on antiquated forms of crude oil delivery, in this case, a rail car. Also to consider, now that coal has been all but outlawed in this country by this same group of people, we are more reliant than ever on petroleum products. It makes me think back of all the tales of woe we heard about the Alaskan pipeline. Well, after all these many years, They've never had a serious spill, and the wildlife population around the pipeline has increased because of the unintended consequence of a year-round food source because of the thermal heating that the oil provides. The United States could be producing and exporting petroleum, and paying back the Chinese with tax revenue. But the progressives will never have that.

Athens chefs to open taco shop in Normaltown

Great chefs, though they may be, I just don't see the need for another Mexican-style restaurant in Athens. How about an honest to God diner, or maybe even a high quality American fare restaurant. No, it's got to be more tacos, burritos and a healthy dose of Chipolte peppers. Sheesh!

Judge: NC possum drop allowed to go on
Stinky_Dawg_Luvin - the animal's lips are drawn back, the teeth are bared, saliva foams around the mouth, the eyes close or half-close, and a foul-smelling fluid is secreted from the anal glands. The stiff, curled form can be prodded, turned over, and even carried away without reaction. The animal will typically regain consciousness after a period of between 40 minutes and 4 hours, a process that begins with slight twitching of the ears." (Wikipedia, 2013)

I had a friend who once dated a woman who behaved like this. She called this "foreplay"!

Judge: NC possum drop allowed to go on

"A PETA lawyer says the lights, noise and crowd of people can wreck a possum's nerves and health."

http://www.hillbillycrackpot.com/wp-content/pictures/moe-learns-to-cook-...

Once you get your possum skinned out and cleaned you will need:
8 Big Taters
2 big spoons of butter
1 big spoon of sugar
a pinch or two of salt
Thyme, marjoram or pepper to taste
1 cooking pot with a good tight lid
Put the possum in the pot with just enough water to keep it from burning, cover with a good tight lid. Possums take longer to cook than taters so wait until your possum has stewed for about an hour before you add the taters to the pot. Place the taters along the sides of the possum and mix in sugar, salt and your choice of thyme, marjoram or pepper to taste.

I think that the excitement might trigger the adrenalin, so an upset opossum might be a little more gamey than fresh road kill. As to the PETA lawyer...get a life!

Athens cop kicks in door to save assault victim

@Joe Johnson:

Maybe a fan of Pam Tillis?...Nahh, I seriously doubt it!

Mi Vida Loca(My Crazy Life) Lyrics - Tillis Pam :

If you're coming with me you need nerves of steel
'Cause I take corners on two wheels
It's a never-ending circus ride
The faint of heart need not apply

Mi vida loca over and over
Destiny turns on a dime
I go where the wind blows
You can't tame a wild rose
Welcome to my crazy life

Sweetheart before this night is through
I could fall in love with you
Come dancing on the edge with me
Let my passion set you free

Mi vida loca over and over
Destiny turns on a dime
I go where the wind blows
You can't tame a wild rose
Welcome to my crazy life

Here in the firelight I see your tattoo
Mi vida loco, so you're crazy too

Mi vida loca over and over
Destiny turns on a dime
I go where the wind blows
You can't tame a wild rose
Welcome to my crazy life

We'll go where the wind blows
And I'll be a wild rose
Welcome to my crazy life

Arrest of Indian diplomat creates uproar

If Condoleezza Rice had been the Secretary of State and GW Bush had been president, I've the feeling that this story would've been written quite differently. The entire run up to the election of Barack Obama, all that he and the rest of the Democrat strategists could talk about was how the Bush administration had sullied the credibility of the United States and driven the popularity of our government to all time lows amongst the rest of the countries of the planet. And then, with the election of Obama, he proceeds on an apology tour. At the same time he appoints the Keystone cops, starting with Hillary Clinton, and now currently John Kerry as the leaders. All that while, we have the assassination of ambassadors, Third World leaders thumbing their noses at us, Brazil just plain old ostracizing us, the Russians doing anything and everything they want to do as it regards to how Syria will operate, Iran is spinning centrifuges for the next 6 months with our blessing... And now, one of the fastest emerging world powers and democracies, namely India, is telling us to not so politely "shove it!"

Gee, Barack, it seems that you've done such an incredible job at restoring our stature...NOT!

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
