kemosabe - A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side.

Exactly... this is why religion was created in the first place. A means to control the masses with fear.

Where did you read that this guy is in the US illegally? That's not mentioned anywhere in the article I read.
Ohhh, that's right. You made it up.
Uh, he's a Mexican. Credits to navy beans he and virtually every other of his kind are in this country illegally. Especially since our gov has decided to turn a blind eye to it and grant these people privileges that we citizens do not even have.

This is where I'd agree with Sharia Law in cutting off his hand and branding his face. The arrogance and stupidity behind this kind of crime is becoming all too common.
Have some self respect people.

You clearly don't understand one bit about a person like this. Crime is easy and often fun and completely free which is why it is so alluring to some. Of course he's not sorry for what he did... he did it on purpose with a plan. Now I say crime is usually easy but to be stealing cats that were already installed on a car in a lot of work.

One certainly can't rely on the police and news media to learn the truth about such matters. That said, nobody deserves a burial. What a huge waste of land. All corpses should be cremated.

No, we were not created and no, we are not all equal. Some folks are far more equal than others and some have no equality at all. That's just the way it is on this planet.

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.
