4 UGA football players arrested, charged with theft by deception

Sending a message does no good. When one lives a whole life of the rules not applying to them, they do not think anything will happen to them. Operant conditioning. Gotta be kinda slow to think you can double cash a check and get away with it.

4 UGA football players arrested, charged with theft by deception

It is the nature of a now increasingly dysfunctional society, and the feeling of entitlement. Kids learn this in h.s. where they are protected and no student is really held accountable any more. Teachers and low level administrators can do nothing abouot what gutless vote and power seeking politicians do that fosters this mind set.

Bluemonkey - please do not blame the system. It may be flawed but that is not why these kids have this mentality.

I doubt that our players are more delinquent than other schools' players. We read about it more, and actually do something about it more. This is a good thing.

There is a big difference in riding a bike down a street wrong way and fraudulently cashing checks. One of the biggest crimes now is identity theft, credit card theft, etc. Maybe if someone - PARENTS TO START WITH-taught morals this would be less frequent. Maybe if the kids would LISTEN AND DO WHAT IS RIGHT it would help.

We can always go back and only recruit true students, and that would help also. Most kids who have 3.8 gpa's and 1300 SAT scores do not do this while in school.

Blog: Equal opportunity spring practice on tap for Bulldogs

In the mid 70's the Dawgs went to the old Tangerine Bowl and LOST to Miami- of OHIO!

The next spring - Dooley had vowed that it would not happen again- spring football became open season for all. Coach Russell started the famous JUNKYARD DOGS.

It didn't happen again. This became one of the greatest eras in UGA football history.

Let's hoe history repeats itself.

Blog: Looking at impact proposed play-clock rule change on UGA vs. Missouri and Clemson

I fthey pass this rule they need to mke a similar rule for basketball. If a team has a fat, slow player on the floor the other team cannot shoot for the first 10 seconds of the shot clock. It may cause injury to those people.

football is going to have to change just like basketball did. There is a reason basketball players can get up and down the floor better than they used to.Football will need to get faster and leaner, as they did once before- headed by the Bear himnself. There are not many big slow posts left in basketball, and most can handle the ball at least some.

Paying For OnlineAthens

What did King do to get banned? How does one get banned? Please, I am apparently very unaware. Do they say the wrong thing, or do they say it the wrong way?For how long are they banned?

Also, do the thought police track them down and exile them? Or can they live as long as they do not bother anyone?

Freedom's just another word for nothing else to lose- Kris Kristofferson.

Just wondering.

@theold33:

A day or two ago you replied to me that many bloggers had gone to another location. that I am not familiar with. Can you direct me to it?

I have enjoyed reading, and occassionally posting, both sports stuff and political offerings. It would be sad to see it end. Trying to read the Atla paper blogs on UGA is impossible. There is so much ignorance, meanness, and nonDawgs smarting off. Not much educated thinking on that one. Not much real analysis.

Will The Dawgs Be Better In 2014?

33,

I hope you are right! I think luck again will play a big role.Injuries, etc. The D should be much better, but it comers down to talent. Last year at different times I met Ray Drew and Marcus Stroud. Difference is huge, literally. And Stroud was not big fat and slow.

Offense can be really good- deep at all skill positions. But the line bust grow up quick.

The players need to decide not to get suspended.

i like your optimism. The D players were certainly enthused about Pruitt. Let's be optiimistic, until and if we see something different.

Beasts of the SEC? UGA off to best conference start since 2003

Congrats to the Dawgs for playing so hard. Amazing what effort will do, isn't it?

Our Dawgs are winning with very little talent. Not many on our team would have a shot at being on a top 10 or 20 team roster.

The great John Wooden, long before Saban, said " Success is the peace of mind one gets from havinbg done the best he can."

Hope y'all in and around Athens will give them your full support to recognize the effort.

Wounded Warrior Project - Scam..

I am not surprised. I am Christian and thee was a story- I cannot substantiate it- that a church wanted to give $, and the group refused the money. And the want to help vets?

Regardless of that story this story/blog tells us what we need to know.Legalized theft. Charity Navigator evaluates charities for their efficiency in getting money to the person/group who is supposed to be getting it. Check out even famous ones before you donate. AJC recently ran an article about Jane Fonda's charities. Similar story- maybe worse.

Most charities seem to be charitable only to themselves. This should be illegal, and the common person should not have to do due research to try to make their money truly count.

Let me plug a favorie of mine. THE V FOUNATION FOR CANCER RESEARCH- started by ESPN in Coach Jim Valvano's name. 100% of your donation goes to cancer research. Salaries- very modest- paid by an endowment. Check out the webv site- JIMMYV.ORG.

THANKS TO ALL YOU POSTERS AND BLOGGERS FOR EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ON THIS OUTFIT. GOD BLESS AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Georgia football ranks atop SEC in NCAA graduation rates

I am a proud grad of UGA from long ago. Y'all are right to a good degree about the quality of degree. We obviously hav had some real good people come through in athletics, and some not.

We are not alone.

In the 90's when Miami was ruling the football world the AJC did a study of grad rates among southern schools. Not counting the Dukes, etc, schools , Miami was at the top of the rate. Upon furthur study one found out that most graduated with a BS in URBAN LIFE. What exactly did they do for extra credit?

Even Vandy- I was admitted there and have the utmost respect for the academics there. If you will notice a great number- probably a majority- are studying and getting degrees in ECONOMICS. Whereas that is not urban life, that is obviously the athletic vehicle for eligibility for the "Dores.

And along this line of thought, anyone remember when our D capt was a scholar- Hogue, Sanchez, etc.?

DBs Swann, Dawson struggle to meet preseason expectations

@golfdaddy: I posted that very question recently on one of these articles, so I fully agree with you. It is a major problem I think.Regardless of what coaches say or do, one MUST have player leadership and followship, if you wish. Thinking back - a long way back- to the glory days of the JUNKYARD DAWG our Dawgs always had at least one and usually multiple leaders- not necessarily the best players , but fighters.

In my other post I did mention something Coach Dooley once said after a couple of mediocre years: "We started recruiting according to the stop watch instead of the heart." Vandy beat us with heart.

They always stepped up.Like Henderson (I think) in about 1976- a DB who was a little slow even for then, running down a 4.4 Lizard back for a loss on the 4th and choke play at their 29. We crushed them- stopped them cold the 2nd half, and they were top 5 in offense nationally.

ETC.

Richt says he's 'going to fight until it's over;' Dogs fall out of polls

DAWG FANS,

We are all disappointed of course. Losers start stabbing each other- looking for a scapegoat.I fight that urge myself- I am no better than the next. We do have problems- Special teams and D especially.I think this D is statistically the worst in history. The great coach John Wooden preached that success was doing the best one can. I think we have come up short especially on D.

With talent- lots of points. Without- no. There is a reason our 2nd and 3rd string receivers and tbs are 2nd and 3rd string. Excuses get old. HOwever, WHO WOULD RESPECT RICHT MORE IF HE RIPPED HIS PLAYERS AND COACHES PUBLICLY? WOULD THAT MAKE OTHER PLAYERS WANT TO PLAY HERE?

When is the last time for the GA-FL game to feature N ONE IN THE TOP 25?Instead of the Battle of the Giants it will be the battle of the injured and weak.

A different thought about our team. The players.Motivation comes from coaches. But it also comes from players. You can lead a horse to water but...The things I see on the field reflects a lack of PLAYER LEADERSHIP, ESP D. No one steps up. Critical errors. Blame the coaches if you wish. Blame recruiting. Most of last year's D mailed in their performance, for the most part.

Coach Dooley had many 7-8-9 win seasons. I remember during one of those mediocre runs he made this comment: "We started recruiting by the stop watch instead of the heart." Think about that y'all.

Let's GO DAWGS AND FINISH AS GOOD AS WE CAN.

UGA TB Gurley, S Matthews likely won't play at Vanderbilt

you guys know nothing , apparently, about athletic injuries. he probably won't be 100% the rest of the year. high ankle sprains are way worse usually than regular sprains.

richt wants to win. he is not intentionally sabotaging things. some people's comments are out of oline.

we all have the right to say what we wish. should we knot have the RESPONSIBILITY to know what we are talking about?

Treason or Sedition?

@mcdawg: Excellent again, sir, including your later post.I have always wondered what you did earlier in your life- I value your opinion greatly.Though not nearly as informed/educated as you, I fully agree with yor analyses of this political mess.

My grandparents were sharecroppers and later cotton mill workers. I am white, just to clarify. My uncle( now gone to heaven), their son, went to UGA on the GI plan, and became a successful business man- a very moral man. He was fairly conservative later in life, but he spoke to me in the 1970's about THE DUMBING OF AMERICA.I told him he was wrong. I was wrong. He was right.

The masses have been placated. As you know , a democracy depends on an educated electorate. That's gone.

As for the Dems and the Reps, are they SUPPOSED to vote their conscience/their constituents needs , or just vote their PARTY? Is voting party over country what they are supposed to do? Thousands have been hurt by this mess. But not Congresspeople. I hope I am wrong again. May they all be removed at elction time.

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
