UPDATE: As UGA prepares for Missouri, Gurley gets a lawyer

This guy that turned Todd in is slime. He wasn't making enough money off of Gurley so he set him up. Awful....should be unlawful.
Again, everyone can make money off of the name Gurley, except the guy the name belongs too.....unreal.

Georgia star tailback Gurley suspended due to alleged NCAA violation

I have always, always support Coach Richt. However, if he does not support his guy in this, I am done. This is absolutely ridiculous. Manziel missed a half a game---then you have sexual assault charges at Florida State--no suspension. The NCAA is a joke.
Every other kid at college can work and earn money---they make millions on this kid, and yet he can't sell, if he did, his own name??

Richt, get behind your boy. Go to bat for him. We will all be behind you.
Todd, we stand with you!!!

South Carolina upsets Georgia, 38-35

@dawg23: "start a church in Honduras" ?? Seriously? Well, I guess that comment let's us know what your real issue with Coach Richt is. Pretty sad.

South Carolina upsets Georgia, 38-35

Wow, such a shock to hear these comments...

So, Bobo was a genius for running the similar play on the first drive where we scored. Yet, he is an idiot for trying it again on the last play? You can't have it both ways. It is pretty easy to sit here and Monday morning quarterback.

Richt didn't miss the 28 yd field goal, and his kicker almost never does.....it just happened.
I will agree that our D was a let down. We scored 35 in the rain....pretty nice.

It is just never a shock to hear all of the experts get on here and immediately bash the coaches. No one takes into account a bogus hold that cost us a touch down, or that our SEC leader, misses an easy kick. Sometimes it is just that simple. You knew SC would be ready--heck they were picked to win the East.

Dawgs, hang in there. We support you AND your coaches and appreciate all your hard work. We know there are great games to come and that you will be standing at the end of the season!

Taking their business elsewhere: Best Buy latest to leave Clarke for Oconee

One of the reasons I love living in Oconee County is that I actually get to enjoy my hard-earned tax dollars. We have beautiful parks and an incredible rec center. We pay lower taxes than Clarke--where waste on tired programs is everywhere. Why wouldn't businesses want to move to Oconee with the lower tax costs? Clarke tax payers pay and pay and pay for housing that is abused and for other services that people abuse. There is so much waste. Oconee has been very good about not raising taxes and not abusing is revenue. You can see your tax dollars at work. It will continue to flourish while Clarke will continue to........

Taliban video shows handover of US soldier

"A Taliban statement, also distributed to media, quoted their leader Mullah Mohammad Omar as describing the release of the five Taliban officials from Guantanamo as a significant achievement for the movement. The Taliban had announced the exchange with "great happiness and joy" and said they were seeking the release of additional prisoners, though they provided no specifics."

Americans should be very afraid. Obama just made everyone a target. This is a win for the bad guys and a very, very, big loss and embarrassment for America. And Obama has the nerve to say that "we don't leave Americans behind". Should we name all of the Americans that have been left behind on his watch??? Does the word Benghazi ring a bell?

Just when you thought America couldn't get any weaker...

And yet, the ignorant continue to make excuses and cover for this completely incompetent president....unreal.

Magic Johnson: Now let's hope that the other 29 (NBA) owners do the right thing

I am confused as to why anyone is surprised that this scum bag said what he said. Look at his life style. Again, he is scum.
Regardless of the fact that he is scum, how in the world are we going to say that a person should be fined or banned from a business because of something they said in their home to their girlfriend? Really, you people are ok with this? We are going to hold people accountable for saying things we don't like or that offend us? Wow....
Remember, free speech means you will be offended, you will hear ridiculous, hurtful, mean, things.....It has to do with that "free" thing.

Clarke, Oconee schools announce snow makeup day plans

@Libralady: SEVERAL Oconee employees have already contacted PAGE. Oconee's way of thanking the teachers who already put in hours beyond what is expected, to produce the TOP test scores in the state, it to tell them they are expected to do things that no other system expects. Perhaps the OC super could take lessons for Clarke:

Employees won’t have to make up the three other days because “employees already work well beyond normal business hours,” according to an announcement from Clarke County Superintendent Philip Lanoue.

UPDATE: Most Athens area schools canceling classes today

ABH---very sad that you are going to require people to PAY to access your paper online.

Rumor is Oconee will be offering an online version of their paper which has increased dramatically and they will pick up the online customers you will be losing. The number of people that access your online paper has attracted the many adverisements---this will subside as you lose people.

Ridiculous to pay for an online look.

Carter: State's response to storm was failure

@Dr Benway: Please, save it.
Jimmy botched everything from the rescue attempt to negotiations. Reagan let them know if elected President, Iran would be a parking lot. He won the election and Iran released our hostages.

Athens area schools closing early today due to winter weather threat

The kids could miss 10 days and it wouldn't affected test scores. So much time is wasted in public schools. Ask the kids. They will tell you how many times they sit and do nothing. No need to panic over missing a few days of school.

New 39.6 percent tax bracket for wealthiest people

You voted for it, now enjoy it.

And you think this will motivate people to make more money? Earn more so the government and take more and waste more?

The wealthy will take their money, quit working, and go sit in the sand on some island. That will dry up the jobs and those that depend on them for their food stamps will wonder where all those evil rich people went.

UGA grads top best-seller list

@pinkears3: Let me answer your question. NO, they do not think that they are "all that". However, millions of Americans do. They just do what they do and it resonates with millions of Americans. Many of us are sick to death of the filthy, junk on tv. DD is a nice change from that.

Contrary to what the media tells you, there are more of us "religions, rednecks" out there than you "beautiful" people.

'Historic' black coach hires at Texas, Penn State

We cant talk about someone's qualifications, or how someone hired a good man. We have to include what color the person is. Yet, all we hear is that we need equal rights---skin color doesn't matter.....

Texas and Penn state made great hires. I could care less if the guy is black, white, or purple.

No one has damaged the middle class more than the democratic party. Obama and his policies, if you want to call them that, have almost wiped out the middle class.

Fox gets emotional as Georgia upsets No. 21 Missouri in OT

Coach Fox has done an incredible job with no more talent than he has. The Dawgs compete most games--and there is no question we are out-athleted. Glad they got this win...it was a big one!

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself. No cartoons on racism

As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
