Shop that sold gun to Newtown mom loses license

@pumpkie: I have to agree...it isn't the shop owner's fault how people use their products. I'm hoping there is more to the story we just don't know about yet.

If something illegal was happening or the shop was failing to perform its legal duties for firearm sales, then yes, shut 'em down.

Scouts considering retreat from no-gays policy

Well, the flaw in that argument is that to chickens, foxes are predators by nature. Their instincts are to hunt for food as a means of survival.

Gay people are not predators by nature. Their instincts are not to molest children. Do some gay people commit such crimes? Yes. Do some straight people do the same thing? Yes. Do MOST individuals of either group molest children? No.

Scouts considering retreat from no-gays policy
McCarthy - @WinSomeLoseSome:

Until one of their son's becomes a victim of sexual assault while in care of Boy Scouts. DON'T DO IT!
Even heterosexuals commit sex crimes against adolescents. Admitting openly gay people does not increase the chances of sexual abuse...if a person is mentally ill enough to commit such crimes against children, it doesn't much matter whether they are gay or straight.

Scouts considering retreat from no-gays policy

I'm happy to read this...equality for ALL is an absolute must during the formative years of our youth. Even if that means parents have to actually **parent** their children by teaching them about acceptance, honor, and respect--even when it involves those with different beliefs or lifestyles.

After security breach, UGA sends letters to nearly 8,000 workers

@johnthebrewer: when the red tape gets nixed and people can just do their damn jobs without having to document the 9 million ways they're trying to not offend or unfairly displace small businesses who can't (yet) meet this type of security demand.

Pop Addict Book Review: "Facing the Music and Living to Talk About It" by Nick Carter

As a huge Backstreet Boys fan, I was little perplexed on reading Nick Carter?s book.  It?s not like reading a book about Elvis Presley or The Beatles. I didn?t live through those moments. I didn?t see them in person. But as someone who has followed Nick?s career since I became a fan in 1998, not just in the Backstreet Boys, but as a solo artist, I?ve always thought we had a lot in common besides being the same age. read more

Links to Banner-Herald's award-winning sports stories

The Athens Banner-Herald sports staff combined to win 11 individual awards on Sunday at the Georgia Sports Writers Association's annual meeting in Marietta.
