Hey, I have an idea. Let's shut the SOB down under the RICO act. Then follow that up with Bethel. Simple. Done. Game Over.

Ms. Childers-Queen literally burned a bridge. Guess she'll be tweaking in the hoosegow for the near future...and then before too long, she'll grace us all again with her presence on MLK and North Avenue.

Stripped of glory: The Armstrong interview

I feel like a rube, because I believed in his defense. Now that he has been unmasked as one of the biggest bullies and liars of our time, I have absolutely no sympathy for his plight. Here's hoping he gets his financial clock cleaned by those that he so unjustly wronged.

Newborn's father burglarizes the mother's Athens home

"Hey Mama, I heard Papa call himself a jack of all trade.
Tell me is that what sent Papa to an early grave?
Folk say Papa would beg, borrow, steal to pay his bill.
Hey Mama, folk say that Papa was never much on thinking.
Spent most of his time chasing women and drinking.
Mama, I'm depending on you to tell me the truth. Mama looked up with a tear in her eye and said,
"Son, Papa was a rolling stone. (Well, well, well, well)
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
(And when he died) All he left us was ALONE."

A $140M injection for downtown Athens

@toscany: Oh....you make so many baseless assumptions about me. First off, I think you would be quite surprised who I voted for. Also, I own a home in ACC (in quite a nice neighborhood, I might add) as well as some rental properties in ACC, so you are totally off base there as well.

Speaking of old coot, aren't you the one that's retired here? Just to let you know, I am still a very productive member of our society, and delight in seeing the best in everyone. I work with a small local company and this has been the absolute best year of my career path, both personally and financially.

Friends? My best friend from France will be staying with us this next weekend. Great guy, but he wears too much cologne. Regardless, office parties, dinner parties, I am not hurting for friends...again, another baseless assumption.

Finally, who is the Grinch here...one who cannot tolerate opposing viewpoints without throwing out names and insinuating that others are less than the mighty Toscany? And thanks for the ignore, I am so appreciative....and I sincerely hope you enjoy your Christmas!

@toscany: And where did you see me refer to you as such? And don't insinuate that I did so....totally tasteless, both those who use such terminology, as well as your own snide comments. Notice your first post....the usage of "we". We is all inclusive...which means that you DO intend to speak for me. Last time I checked, I certainly have a mouth and a brain, so I feel reasonably certain that I can fend for myself, no thanks to you.

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
