"not comedy gold"? Now our feelings really are hurt.
After someone said our Nixle alerts were "arrogant and demeaning", we decided to put it out there and give our citizens a chance to respond. We take what we do very seriously, but we try not to take ourselves seriously. We feel the "be more like Andy and less like Barney" approach works with some of the trials and tribulations of life that we share.
We are glad most folks agree. Thank yiou
The inmate has been charged locally and turned over to the Department of Corrections for return to state custody. We will be posting his information, picture and video of the chase on the Sheriffs Office FB page soonposted @ Wednesday, December 11, 2013 - 15:28
UPDATE: The original BOLO described two persons. There was only one. He is in custody and was captured by Deputy Matt Towe after a car chase/foot chase off 316 and 10 Loop. GSP is working the crashes, and we will have a myriad of additional charges.
Deputies saw the yellow taxi enter into Founders Grove subdivision and went inside to locate it. He left Founders Grove driving through yards at a high rate of speed.
We appreciate you coming out and participating with us Wayne. Of course, the dogs have never bit a reporter before, now that they got the taste, they may never let go!!!!!
We have charged a 4th person. That suspect is being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail on charges unrelated to our kidnapping case, but our investigators worked with RCSO deputies on the case.posted @ Friday, November 22, 2013 - 14:58

I told the owner of the fence that we would fix it. He said not to worry, he was going to set a new post and it would be good to go. The fence stretched, it didn't breakposted @ Wednesday, July 31, 2013 - 13:43
It is amazing to watch Marla work and talk to witnesses. She will be missed but it is neat that Kelly is following in her footsteps. I wish you well Marla....posted @ Sunday, June 16, 2013 - 08:45
Unfortunately we are going to have to give it back to the owner, as soon as he makes bond.....
That is why we are posting pics, so Oconee folks know what to look for in their neighborhoods

Congratulations Hannah, this has been a work in progress since you were much younger, and I am happy that your efforts have been recognized statewide. I am proud of you, as I know your family is. Keep up the good work, I think you have found a calling for your life....posted @ Monday, March 25, 2013 - 08:57
The Oconee Co SO processed 220 applicants for a Georgia Weapons Carry License in January, up from 120 in December, and up from a mere 30 in September 2012
Obtaining a GWCL exempts you from the NICS check at the counter of the Federal Firearms Licensed Dealer. Our county is not alone, as GWCL applications have skyrocketed.
I submit that more people nationwide have carry licenses of some sort, which will reduce the number of NICS checks at the point of sale...anyone who thinks gun sales have dropped off hasn't tried to go to a dealer and find a gun lately
ppensyl - Any charges against those hiding him?
We stopped his Momma leaving the house about two blocks away. Once confronted, she gave him up. There won't be any charges for hindering apprehension unless ACCPD has info I am not aware of

Summary: Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
