Review: Sanford Stadium show was the best concert... ever

@Anonymous Dude: This one definitely surpassed Garth Brooks in 1994 when I was in 8th grade. I'm contemplating seeing Jason, Jake and Thomas Rhett in Greenville next month it was so good LOL!

Review: Sanford Stadium show was the best concert... ever

@GroversMill: I'm 32. I wouldn't say I'm a "youngster." It's kind of hard to see some of the greats like Elvis Presley, Conway Twitty or the Beatles (all together) when they're dead (for the most part).

Aldean concert won't be last in stadium, say UGA leaders
Yknoh - @Karah-Leigh Hancock: People never CEASE to amaze me...and youre one of them. You work at the Banner Herald? Go figure.
Maybe I had a secret reason for saying "seize" instead of "cease"?

Okay, I tried.

Yesterday was a LONG day.

Pop Addict: "After the show at Sanford Stadium"

@dcbasham: So that means every story/blog post about an upcoming show, event, etc. is an ad, is that what you're saying?

To me, it's not an ad. If you feel that way, than I can't help that. Sorry.

Community lights candles to remember Buddy Christian
Watchman - @ Karah L Hancock:
If you are going to write an article honoring this good man, at least get the facts straight! He was not responding to an officer being shot. He was sitting in his car writing a report when the events unfolded and Jamie Hood shot two officers and then ran past his car and shot him through the window. Buddy was no threat to Hood. He was victim of being in Hood's path as he fled after shooting two officers.
Incorrect articles can alter the outcomes of future trials, so get it straight.
Buddy Christian was a good man and a friend to everyone who met him. Let's at least get that accurate.

I went by this http://buddychristianfoundation.org/about-us/buddys-story/ in the first paragraph.

Hancock: NASCAR offers fair share of drama

@Save our Republic: Tony Stewart throwing his helmet is awesome.

I miss his antics on the track with showing his personality. Since he became an owner, he's toned it down. Last year's helmet thing was just... awesome.

More about the artists playing at Sanford Stadium
hitman - this sucks... thses guys can not sell it out like a rap artist could.. Jay Z, or Lil Wayne, Drake,Mariah Carey, Beyonce, many more to name just to many. This town always having big stuff for these crusty crappy folks and they the ones who leave the town dirty as crap after 2am.
With Atlanta so close, no one like that would ever come here. Trust me, I'd love to see Mariah. I saw Beyonce with Destiny's Child and it wasn't that great of a show.

More about the artists playing at Sanford Stadium
soulpen - yep.. pretty bad pop country. I'm sure there are some Nashville greats that are still kicking around, some folks who still remember being on hee haw or the grand ol' opry. Heck just some good ol' boys from the picking parties up from a chicken shack in the hills has got to sound better than the pop they play on the top 40 country airwaves these days.. How about some James Mcmurtry, or some Robert Earl Keen, Steve Earl maybe..now that's some good stuff right there, folks who sing without hip hop samples, booty dancers, and sing about real farms being lost not bad rhymes. God bless the Louvin Bros., Roy Acuff, Waylon, and Johnny Cash. I'll bet these new guys can't play real country, you need a country soul, not a runaway to Nashville one. A businessman doesn't get blisters on his hand writing songs based on formulas in Nashville. Just cause you bought an Earnest Tubb t-shirt, walked down music row, and bought your "canadian" whiskey at Frugal Macdoogles it doesn't make you country. These boys/businessmen need to take the money and run, they'll just get washed up on the riverside with Justin Bieber and Britnney Spears in ten years anyway.
The sad fact is... none of those artist will sell as many tickets as this show did (besides Bieber and Britney that you mentioned). Asleep at the Wheel is a great band, but they are playing at Melting Point.

I have watched one of my favorite bands go from selling out the Georgia Dome to playing small clubs and back to selling out Phillips Arena. Musical taste change throughout the years... and as great as Steve Earl is, he'd never sell out Sanford Stadium.

Aldean concert will look a lot like a UGA football game -- and bring money to Athens
Abbesays -
Wait a while and they may have an Ernest Tubb concert.

Might be waiting a while for that one.... he's dead.

JOEL!!! MY CUPCAKES!

My favorite is GiGi's Wedding Cake. However, you'd think it would be Miss Princess, but it's not. For someone with a fear of commitment, the Wedding Cake is my favorite. It's an oxymoron, I'm sure.

I got one Friday night. #DontJudgeMe

Athens area talent hit it big in the country music industry in 2012

@BullJacket: He and Thomas Rhett are two of the main reasons I'm going. Thomas Rhett is from Valdosta... his father is Rhett Akins, one of the top songwriters in Nashville right now so it's hard to believe that TR is grown, married and a singer on his own.

Rep. Regina Quick pulls no punches on Chamber scorecard

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

UPDATED: Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.   Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. read more
