Madison County employees suspended in wake of probe

This is not good for the County....Commissioner Dove and sheriff Thomas are both doing an excellent job for the County...You should get together and settle this. Dove runs the County...The Sheriff provides the security and law enforcement. It is that simple.

U.S. appeals court sides with Plant Vogtle

Another victory over the enviro nuts that want us to freeze to death in the dark, and the cost of the fight with these suits will show up in your utility bill.

Burglar runs after breaking in on armed UGA student

@ptmmac:

Yes, I know what it to kill someone....When it is your life or theirs, and they are trying to take your Country, or to break into your home, it is you against them. Wishfull thinking that they will not harm you or your loved ones will get you or them killed. Which is worse. Killing in combat to save your life, killing a killer to save your life or your love one, or trusting that the man kicking in your door means you no harm.

Officers testify Jamie Hood said he intended to kill Athens cop

Officer Christian was a good officer and person. This excuse for a human being is an animal. Lets get on with his trial and hanging.

90-year-old Athens landlord and daughters jailed overnight without bail in tenant dispute

I am with the landlord/......People that expect to stay in a house without paying rent are not easy to deal with under current regulations. It seems that this society expects to get everything free

Tifton trying to make roads safer for bike riders

@TeeWee:

You have brought up a point that I have been saying for years...If bike riders want to ride on the roads, lets get legislation to make them buy tags. That way they would help pay for the paved roads they want to ride on. I dont object to bike riders, just that they get a free ride.

Senate panel ready to OK gun background checks

You are right on grove600...Do the dumb gun control people really think that a man or woman would care about the stealing a gun law, when he is going to commit a murder?

Senator still grumbling over power shift

What part of 42 to 12 does this nut not understand! The Senate only has a limited amount of time to take up the important issues facing the state, and he wants to speak about this every day???

Ga. Senate passes weak cap on lobbyist gifts

Our local Senators are so much better than those in the National Senate that we should be praising them for their service, not crawling out from under a holier than thou rock to think they can be bought by $100. The political point of view of most of these comments is evidently that of Harry Reid and his blind followers in the U.S. Senate.

Darwin gets votes against Broun beyond Athens, Oconee County

If this story was not coming from the County with the most residents who are educated beyond their intellegence I would be concerned, But since it is, I just wonder why the Newspaper keeps up this kind of non strory.

The Rotary Club of Madison County depends on fund raisers, donations, and grants to provide this service to the handicapped in Madison County.
If you check the Operation Roundup on your Jakson Emc Electric Bill you help, because the EMC roundup foundation has made two substantial grants to the club.

    Rep. Regina Quick pulls no punches on Chamber scorecard

    Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. She and I played phone tag Monday when I was reporting the story and I wasn't able to get her comments in a timely fashion. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

    UPDATED: Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

    The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.   Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. read more
