Texas executes man despite opposition from Mexico

It's still amazing to me that idiots like this guy commit murders and such in Texas of all places. They're like retarded lemmings.

Man arrested after taking condoms, alcohol mixers from Kroger

OK, I can understand everything else on his list, but what would he need trash bags for? I'm drawing a blank on that one.

'Sister Wives' family humbled by polygamy ruling

@Crusader: this will be my last response to you, because you're clearly incapable of reasoned debate. First, I suggest you find an encyclopedia or look on the Internet for a picture of a human being. Shouldn't take long, and you should be able to recognize one (hint: they look like the relatively hairless, bipedal--that means two legs!-creatures you see around you every day driving cars, shopping, stuff like that). Now look up a picture of, say, a dog--these are quadrupedal (4 legs!) creatures that are covered in fur. They also can be seen running around, crapping, barking, activities of that nature. Now, and this is the hard part, try to understand that the dogs can't marry the humans and vice versa because *they're not the same species!* That's the critical part right there. If you can figure that out I think you'll have reached a watershed moment in your life and perhaps understand the larger issues with gay marriage and such, but I'll be honest, given your posts here I'm not holding my breath.

Have a good evening, sir.

It's really hard to have any sort of conversation with someone who doesn't recognize the difference between people and animals. That goes for PETA as well as the usual bestialilty-gay marriage trolls.

First batch of chemical weapons taken out of Syria

@Stinky_Dawg_Luvin: Such a bad idea. If these very terrorists and thugs capture these weapons, who do you think they'd try to use them on? Getting all of them out of the country and destroyed is in everyone's best interest.

Police file on Newtown yields chilling portrait

Yea, not sure what thought processes are involved with allowing your violent, anti-social kid access to firearms. Lot of self-delusion going on there.

Police: No beer led to ceramic squirrel stabbing

Well, I guess if you really want to stab someone with a ceramic squirrel, a lack of beer is as good a reason as any.

Woman makes history by joining confederate group

Initially I was wondering why in the world she'd do this, but then I realized its none of my damn business. If she wants to honor her ancestor this way, more power to her, and I commend this organization for allowing her to join. Maybe everyone will learn something from this, who knows. Stranger things have happened.

VIDEO: Woman's tweet about AIDS outrages Internet

@Watchman: Wait, you're actually saying that HIV only infects black people? Surely you're not saying that, because that would be one of the most utterly moronic things I've read on the Internet all year, and I've read some doozies, believe me. Maybe tell us all just why you think her tweet was 'the truth'.

What kind of communications executive makes a rookie mistake like this? Should fire her for being incompetent (which I guess they did). She's certainly entitled to her opinions though, even if I don't agree with them.

Woman robbed in downtown Athens

Heck, it seems like most of the sensational downtown robberies turn out to be fake anyway (not saying this one is, however, just saying reserve judgement until the facts come in). Wasn't there a rash of fake reports a few years ago that turned out to be people either being ripped off during a drug buy or trying to avoid trouble for spending all their money at Toppers? Seems like I remember that at any rate...

Anyway, there are cameras around there so I'm sure the police will figure out what went on and get a viable suspect.

Woman caught shoplifting at Athens grocery store

@CharlotteLadyGardner: Give us details--when, where, who--all that. I'm not saying you're making things up, but I can tell you I go to Kroger all the time at weird hours and haven't even had a hint of a problem. And the OC WalMart gets hit by shoplifters all the time, so not sure I'd call that a safe place (not that it's unsafe either mind, but criminals don't tend to respect county boundaries).

Clarke students learn a new language: computer code

@TeeWee: As long as 1-in-100 of us (give or take) remembers those old skills and/or stockpiles supplies, we should be relatively ok. Problem is, I'm pretty sure not even 1% of the population does that. And that's not only a problem with an EMP attack, but even a more localized disaster like a tornado or hurricane. Guess we'll never learn.

Been awhile since anything has happened there though, and all that was before the remodel wasn't it? I've never seen anything off or been uncomfortable there, and I shop at odd hours.

Blog: Can we please fix the Oscars?

Summary:  Fun facts: The first-ever Oscar ceremony, held in 1929, ran a brisk 15 minutes. By contrast, the longest was in 2002, clocking in at a monstrous 4 hours and change. As usual, there are things I loved about it and things I didn't. Rather than be snarky or complain, I'll offer a few suggestions on how the organizers might bring the show into the 21st century. Winter storm drama

Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to Pinewood Estates North on a 911 call concerning a heated domestic dispute. it reportedly was an argument over the lack of heat and food in a family's trailer and a woman was threatening to stab anyone who tried to take away her 7-month-old child. State patrol responded also, from their post nearby on U.S. Highway 29 North. The situation apparently was resolved. An officer reported he was driving the woman and infant to another home in Athens. read more
