Winder woman charged in shipment of meth from Mexico

Why the need to spend all that money on shipping fees from Mexico? It'll cost you about $5 in gas to ride up to Commerce and pick some up from there. She obviously isn't very business minded...

Hood claims he heard dead brother's voice before shooting Athens police officers

I kinda wish he had heard his brother say " Come to the light". Then maybe he would have shot himself and we wouldn't have to be dealing with his bulls**t antics and Buddy Christian would be home playing with his beautiful children.

VA training guide likens vets to Oscar the Grouch

Being in the healthcare field and having had to visit a VA facility on more than one occasion for different reasons with my best friend I can't express the anger and hurt I felt for those men and women who have no other choice but to have their care at the VA facilities. They sit in those waiting rooms for hours on end, waiting for sub par (at best) care, provided by doctors who are mostly there just to collect a check, who could care less about the person in front of them and their story. To sit there and listen to the stories they share, of war and death, would break the heart of the strongest people I know. Yet these men and women, who have suffered and sacrificed so that we don't have to have to settle for this treatment. Waiting months and years for surgeries and exams. Sometimes to be turned down for services because some jerk sitting in an office with little or no medical experience thinks that it's not medically necessary. I have family in the army now and I am dreading the fact that they may be forced to recieve this kind of treatment, or lack there of. These problems need to be fixed. I think that if our politicians were forced to use these facilities things would change a little more quickly. And as far as the vets complaining about their services and asking for things, they have the right to complain. They should have more right to complain than any of us who haven't served. And in my opinion anyone who has served and sacrificed for us, especially the injured ones and ones suffering from PTSD, have the right to ask for anything they want and should be accomodated as best as they are able to be!

Georgia teen struck by police car while on bike

@athenstransplant: I have family who was very close with this child, and yes he has passed. The family has posted on Chandler's facebook page that he passed this weekend. So sad for all parties involved, it was truly an accident that couldn't have been avoided from what I'm understanding from my family. Prayers going out for Chandler's family and friends. He was apparently a very well liked, loving young man.

Jepsen drops Boy Scouts event over gay rights

I would feel just fine having my child, male or female left in the care of a gay or lesbian person. I know this because I have taken the time to get to know more than a few of each. I know that they are some of the most fun loving, carefree, and caring people that you will ever meet. Of course they, like any one of us, have issues in their life. I'd be willing to bet with anyone that if all of you who are saying how "icky" and wrong being gay is, got off your high horses and got to know a LGBT person that you would love them too and see that your ASSUMPTIONS about them and their lifestyle were completely wrong. You all know what assuming things does right... IT MAKES YOU AN ASS...

Calif. woman dies after nurse refuses to do CPR
mongobfairchild -
I dont think this is correct. I have participated in more than one resuscitation on visitors within ARMC and we handled everything internally. Now, if they collapse just outside the ER on the public sidewalk, then an ambulance gets called. We would render aid until the ambulance arrives but would allow them to transport to the ER.

It's always interesting when people think they know what they're talking about and they really don't, isn't it?? Aimed at the person you replied to, not to you!

Calif. woman dies after nurse refuses to do CPR
grove600 - If you're visiting someone on the 5th floor of ARMC and have a heart attack, they too will call 911 to transport you to their ER for care. Protocol. It might suck, but it was most likely born from a lawsuit.
Are you an ARMC employee? If not, I'm sure that you probably shouldn't use them as an example related to a story like this. I'm also sure that they have policies in place that are far more efficient than call 911 IN THE MIDDLE OF A TOP RANKING MEDICAL FACILITY and wait for EMS to arrive. I'm also pretty sure that a hospital employee is not going to stand by and watch someone die.

I'm not a nurse or a doctor, but don't you take an oath that kinda says you have to help people in need...apparently that nurse in that ALF needs to go back and check the one she took as well as her humanity and her conscience. She lacks the latter two apparently.

Franklin County grand jury indicts mother on murder charge

It amazes me how women like this who can't take care of/dont want the children that they have keep having them, and then a poor defenseless infant/child ends up dead. Some people shouldn't be allowed to breed...

Athens man allegedly chokes, threatens to kill girlfriend
CharlotteLadyGardner - The police do their job by arresting him. Does our DA do his job by prosecuting the crime for what it really is?
Of course he won't...why would he change his current way of doing things. Maybe he sees the probation fees making more money for the county than keeping them in jail. Who cares about the citizens that these punks are terrorizing. And they'll keep terrorizing because they aren't being taught a lesson. It really makes absolutely no sense. I'm just wondering what it's going to take for him to open his eyes and see that his current punishment methods aren't working, and that maybe he should try something else. Maybe build a bigger jail and start keeping people in it.

Athens man allegedly chokes, threatens to kill girlfriend
SIGNOFF - She needs to have a gun, like yesterday.

I don't know why you got all the neg's. I'd give you +10 if I could! I guarantee if she had a gun she would save herself and ACC tax payers a lot of headache... But of course, that probation he will no doubt get, added to the probation that he is no doubt already on, will surely teach that POS a lesson...

3 children killed in Macon house fire

Why would you leave four children in a home alone? I don't care how close the place you have to go is, putting those kids in the car or making them walk with you is always better than taking the chance that something like this might happen. If you can't handle the hassle or inconvenience of having to deal with taking them with you everywhere you go then you should have considered that before you kept having them.

Athens man on bond for 23 burglaries cuts off ankle monitor a second time
ntjoking - damn what does it take for the judges to see he aint going to ever change, put him away

He's probably going to have to kill someone. Endangering people while he's comitting his crimes is obviously not enough to keep him behind bars. And when he does kill or cause serious injury to someone the judge who let him out should be charged with aiding and abetting, and accesory...because that's exactly what they are doing by letting people like this stay free.

Jefferson toddler hit by branch to undergo 5th surgery

Get well soon little man! Daily prayers for you recovery and for strength for your family. Hopefully this will be the last surgery and all will be able to return to as normal a life as possible. God knows this family deserves it. It's touching how many people follow his progress daily, and have come together to help this family. If only people could come together like this for more things than just tragedies. This world would be a much better place.

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself. No cartoons on racism

As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
