New 39.6 percent tax bracket for wealthiest people

I continue to be amazed at the lack of information folks have about how the tax system works.. Our tax system encourages entrepreneurship by taxing INCOME. As long as an entrepreneur re invests the profit from his venture, for the most part it is not taxed. ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS OF OUR TAX SYSTEM IS TO CONTROL BEHAVIOR AND TO HOPEFULLY, ALLOW THOSE WISE INVESTORS TO ACCUMULATE WEALTH BUT NOT TO THE EXTENT THAT THEY CAN CONTROL THE GOVERNMENT. Unfortunately the $$$ in our country is becoming more and more in the control of the wealthy and it is then the function of OUR government to take action or chaos will follow. I for one hope they do not wait until it is to late.. We have already seen what happens when a few have all the money. We can thank Teddy Roosevelt fore having the guts to get us through that period without a major catastrophe!!!

VIDEO: Police search for motive in deadly Purdue shooting

The problem with gun control is the same as with other proactive actions, you never know which and when you save a life... Here is another family dealing with hindsite that is left wishing more had been done. My sympathy goes out to those suffering and dealing with the collateral damage thanks to the nra and those willing to stand by and allow guns to continue to control us.

Teachers, state workers upset about health plan changes

The real problem we are dealing with now is the total lack of creditable information, especially on the internet and fox news... Over all though the widening gap between the haves and the have nots is going to cause us the most problems.

Consumers who opt not to enroll in health insurance plans to face growing penalties

The same fight was waged over Medicare and Medicaid and now see what would happen to any politician who tries to do away with them. Time will tell how the new health care law works, but at the very least it is a start. A law this complex would have to be amended to get the bugs out under ideal circumstances and with all the political issues and the lack of cooperation in our government there is no wonder we have chaos...

In Georgia it doesn't really matter to these yahoos, if the other party starts to gain control they will just change parties and we will still be left with the same bunch of crooks!!! It is time to clean house and get a new crop, at least maybe they will work for us until they fall in bed with the corporate lobbyist...

    Blog: Watching movies by myself

Summary:  I'm not saying it's lonely to be a movie critic, but we often find ourselves seated alone in an empty theatre when we're watching new stuff. I know people who say they won't go see anything unless they have at least one other person to go with, but I've always enjoyed having the place to myself. No cartoons on racism

As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
