Repeat shoplifters caught at Athens Walmart

The story didn't mention that Wilson is Phillips' mother. (Wilson Phillips...they should form a band.)

From the 2009 Oconee County blotter:

Arrests: On Jan. 10, deputy Laura Teet was dispatched about 2:50 p.m. to Wal-Mart for a shoplifting incident. Two suspects already were being detained by store security and one suspect was in possession of some pills. Teet asked Jillian Carol Phillips, 27, of Winery Way, Athens, about the pills and the woman claimed they were her medication. The bag contained Xanax and Lortab. Phillips and her mother, Rebecca Naomi Wilson, 51, of Baxter Street, Athens, were charged with shoplifting $324 worth of merchandise from the store. When deputies checked the suspects' car, an additional $437 worth of stolen merchandise was found. Phillips also was charged with possession of drugs.

Hood, prosecution asks judge to reconsider using Elbert County jury in Athens murder trial

"The police searched potential jurors’ homes, they stopped and searched potential jurors’ cars and trunks during roadblocks the police had set up in Elbert County."

By this loser's logic, the jury can't consist of any members who live in a county where the search for him took place. Fry him already.

I didn't realize hitchhiking was illegal. Seems stupid to hitchhike (or pick up a hitchhiker), but I always thought it was all voluntary and good.

    No cartoons on racism

As you might imagine, the vast majority of the editorial cartoons available these days for publication through the syndicate which supplies cartoons to the Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens are addressing the situation in Ferguson, Mo., where the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer has touched off a number of demonstrations -- some peaceful, but many not at all peaceful, with tear gas fired by police officers and gunshots fired by some protester. read more
