posted @ Thursday, May 2, 2013 - 13:03I know many seem to enjoy sitting in smug judgement of others but the facts are the homeless are not the stereotypes many here portray...
-- 20-25% suffer from severe mental illness...our mental health "system" basically medicates people and throws them back on the street
--as high as 40% are families with children, who have lost their homes/jobs
--200,000+ (20-25%) are veterans
I would encourage folks to remember these facts before casting judgement on all homeless...remember John Bradford's words about the heart of being a Christian: "there but for the grace of God go I"

Why does the homosexual people in the US (which is less than 2% of the population) feel they need to announce what their sexual preference is ??? As for myself, I could give a rats a## what anyone does in their own bedroom. What will be the next group, people who have sex with chickens, sex with squirrels, cars, bats, blue jays, rocks, mudholes, bees, bears, cheetahs, kangaroos, giraffes, pine trees ect.....
Who gives a dan what you choose to do in your house......insanity, plain & simple...........shut up & enjoy your life outside the spotlight.

given that every time there is a story about gays you choose to post the same hate-driven drivel ("sex with chickens" etc), I'd say you CLEARLY "give a rats a## "...

@TrollKiller: I'm a registered independent, so the GOP's radical conservative base doesn't apply to me. I'm done with this conversation though. It's really quite disgusting that this has to be announced like it's cause for celebration. Many people lived the gay lifestyle before him and many will live it after him.
Not a cause for celebration. Just pointing out you cant fault him for this announcement when one so many on the right have made his sexuality a open political issue for the last 10 years

Real guts for what? Letting the world know his sexual preference?? Oh please. Real guts is being the first NBA player to take a stand against sex trafficking, or famine in underdeveloped countries. This isn't about politics, it's about REAL issues being overlooked for the sake of a minority patting themselves on the back and putting another tally in their "win" column.
I'm not some troll who is anti-gay Americans. I'm just tired of this obsession with people's sex lives. This isn't news and I wish media outlets would focus on things that really matter.
the only "obsession with people's sex lives" is coming from the new GOP and their radical social conservative base, who have openly made sexual preference a campaign issue for the last decade...its the same party that advocates "Personhood" bills that would outlaw all abortions and most birth control
so if you dont like people being obsessed with other people';s private lives, dont vote GOP

If you believe this about me, you need to read my reply to mdp several posts up. I am very open to a dialogue on the topic, certainly including issues concerning the life of the mother, rape and incest. It is you my friend who is the extremist and are a master in the art of projection. Have a great weekend!
i am simply pointing out the very real logical and legal consequences of your position...if you dont believe me, read up on the "Personhood" initiatives sponsored by the GOP...they are based on EXACTLY your "scientific" position
anyway, I do appreciate a spirited debate and the fact you stayed away from cheap insults and terms like "baby killer" and "murder"...thanks and have a great weekend!
posted @ Saturday, April 27, 2013 - 14:09
JGForster -
@TrollKiller: You stated your question as a prejorative...I don't have to answer it as such. You have no answer for the fact that embryoes are 100% human, (not 96% as mdp tried to muddy the issue). What other scientific fact do you require to prove that this is true.
You obviously are quite ignorant about science, as you are about the progressive roots of the eugenics movement.
YOUR position ("genetic material"="human") would make ALL abortions illegal (even if the woman's life is threatened by the pregnancy), as well as many forms of birth control and in vitro fertilization...
Forster, your position and that of your ideological compatriots would bring right wing religious police into everyone's bedroom...seig heil, dude...is that what you want?
the new GOP's war on science, women, and our private lives continues
posted @ Saturday, April 27, 2013 - 14:07signing off...but thought i'd spell out my beliefs on this issue
like most Americans I am ambivalent on abortion, and hew the middle ground...
the broader issue here is the religious right has taken over the GOP and no middle ground exists for them anymore: the GOP "Personhood" initiatives would make ALL abortions illegal, even in cases of rape or incest OR danger to the mother's life, AND would outlaw many forms of birth control and even in vitro fertilization, even for married couples
whether they admit it or not, this is the position of religious extremists like our friend Forster, who believes "genetic material"="human"
so I fight against what the GOP has become: a radicalized "smaller government" party that insists on expanding government control over our most private lives...
sigh....I miss the old GOP of Buckley, Safire and Goldwater

The best science tends to support an old earth and macro-evolution. I can accept that as fact because it does not conflict with my religious beliefs. If it did, I don't really know what I would believe. I've answered yours, now answer mine.
sigh...i ask again, since you continue to evade... how old do YOU believe the earth is, and do YOU believe humans and dinosaurs co existed?
and mpd has already given you ample answers to your question...that is, from a scientific pov

Please, just do about 30 minutes of research and you will see the clear history of eugenics and the liberal agenda and even how it was adopted by the medical community in the 1930s by the Nazis. Liberal fascism is not theatrical and it continues to this day.
perhaps I'm wrong, but you seem to equate eugenics with liberalism...and then somehow imply Nazis were "liberal"...both positions are rooted in ideological extremism, not historical fact
posted @ Saturday, April 27, 2013 - 13:40
JGForster -
@TrollKiller: I thought I did...I don't think you liked my answer. Nevertheless, I asked you a serious question about what else science has to say about being human and you have failed to even address it. What about it?
you gave an evasive non-answer to a direct question...typical of religious extremists when cornered by simple logic...
you seem typical of this crowd--using "pretend science" to rationalize imposing your radical religious views on everyone else, when you really choose scientific illiteracy over knowledge
so answer the question

@TrollKiller:
What part of my comments did you not agree with? You know it is possible for some liberals, leftists, socialists, and progressives to be selective racists? You do know that some in the black political community have called Planned Parenthood, "Black Genocide."
I'm just saying it is complicated and most people are ignorant either by education or willfully when it comes to sex. Some don't even know how women get pregnant.
Some working girls view pregnancy as a job liability and some view it as a way to expanded welfare benefits. Some non working girls see pregnancy as the end of their educations and others see it as a way out of high school. Remember, I said it is complicated and I haven't even gotten to the theories about life and death and legality and responsibility.
its the part where you say "Of course, the program was a true progressive dream of eugenics designed to make the population healthier by aborting the unwanted children of unwanted minorities."...till then I found your post interesting
simply put, imputing the most despicable motivation to people you disagree with on an issue is cheap theater, not rational argument
posted @ Saturday, April 27, 2013 - 13:13
mpd0.59 -
An estimated 60% to 70% of embryos either fail to implant or remain implanted a week after fertilization. That's not even accounting for miscarriages later on. If abortion is murder, why would God be committing so many of them?

logic and facts are by and large wasted on radical religious extremists of any kind

You didn't answer my question- What else does science say about humaness save for the genetic makeup?
i dont care what you believe, but you DO use a pretend version of "science" to rationalize your religious beliefs...so I'm guessing this ignorance extends to other issues like the age of the earth
so just answer the question...or are you afraid to?

i notice you didnt answer the question, despite your immature snarky response...so I ask again, do you believe humans and dinosaurs co-existed and the earth is 6000-10000 years old?
posted @ Saturday, April 27, 2013 - 12:57
JGForster -
You are incorrect. An embryo has all of the genetic material that you and I have and is therefore human in every sense of that word as defined by science. What you are arguing is not the querstion of humaness, but of personhood. At what point in time is that human deserving of the state to protect it's rights as a person.
Science cannot answer that question so it is left to us to decide. Do we kill humans? All of the time...capital punishment, collateral damage in war, self-defense. The threshold for making such decisions is quite high..much higher than our rationale for on demand abortion. And of course, that deficiency in reasoning is why so many refer to the embryo or fetus as just a "blob of cells". No one really wants to think that we would kill humans based on such a flippant argument.
"having all the genetic material" is NOT the same as being "human" by all scientific standards..sheesh
i bet you believe humans used to ride around on dinosaurs and the earth is 6000-10000 years old
