An Unspeakable Tragedy

December 14, 2012

As all of you have already heard, 20 year old gunman Adam Lanza murdered 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut around 9:30 this morning. He also killed his mother, and himself. Later this afternoon there was a very emotional address by President Obama, in where he was unable to contain his grief. These types of unspeakable tragedies are pervasive, hitting even our most powerful leaders in their hearts. Now I ask you gun freaks and gun control nuts to cut the crap for the next few days. This event should in no way be politicized. Many of those families and parents will be remembering Christmas without their loved ones this year, the last thing these people want to hear about is their Second Amendment rights right now.

Rep. Regina Quick pulls no punches on Chamber scorecard

Rep. Regina Quick, R-Athens, was one of two local delegates to score less than an "A+" in the Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative score card. Instead, she sent over this statement Wednesday morning and she did not mince her words. (Links and italicized portions are my own; otherwise, it's as she wrote it.) Dear Friends: read more

UPDATED: Draft language of so-called curfew ordinance

The committee opted Tuesday night to put off deciding on the ordinance until, at the earliest, its next meeting. Of note: The Athens-Clarke County attorney highlighted that the proposed times are, in essence, placeholders for the commission to change or keep as it pleases.   Full text of the Use of Public Right-of-Ways ordinance draft is below. read more
