Study shows that fried food won't kill you after all

February 6, 2012

Good news for anyone who put down as many chicken fingers as I did during the game last night: research by the Autonomous University of Madrid has relased data from a study concluding that the amount of fried food you consume does not correlate with "heart related events."

Chow.com writes:

"Researchers for the study spent 11 years monitoring the health of 41,000 people between the ages of 29 and 69. Participants were divided into groups based on how much fried food they ate, with those in the lowest consumption group taking in about 1.6 ounces every day and those in the highest eating 8.8. When the researchers tallied up the number of deaths and "heart-related events" over the years, they found no correlation with their subjects' diets."

Too good to be true? Maybe. The article notes that American fried food and Spanish fried food are two very different things.  Unless you're frying your donuts in olive and sunflower oil, you might want to limit your intake.

Does this information make you feel any better about your Superbowl feast?  Will you be getting "fries with that" from now on?
