Spring Break then and now

February 6, 2012

Lately I've been asking my parents and older friends about their Spring Breaks when they were in college. The answer is almost always a resounding, "you don't want to know."

I did some research and I'm starting to understand why.  I learned that in the 60s and 70s, riot squads were trained to patrol Daytona Beach and Fort Lauderdale in the Spring and 270 kids were jailed in 1975 for disorderly conduct.

Last Spring Break at Gulf Shores, the craziest thing I saw was a man on the beach in a banana suit.  Am I going to the wrong places or has Spring Break changed? What was Spring Break like when you were in college?
