Sid Vicious' straightforward love letter

February 8, 2012

February 2 marked what would have been Sex Pistols’ Sid Vicious’ 53rd birthday. Unfortunately, a deliberate overdose took Vicious’ 21-year-old life just three and half months after the harrowing death of his partner, Nancy Spungen, 33 years ago.

A note, posted by Jezebel, shows the scrawled handwriting of Sid Vicious when he was 20 and a list dedicated to his then 19-year-old lover Nancy. It is an endearing list of reasons as to why he admires her and displays just how young these two conflicted souls were, furthering the heartbreaking fate that would soon follow them. The love letter shows Vicious' appreciation for everything from Spungen's "beautiful figure," to her ability to make "extremely interesting conversation."

Read more about the letter here at HuffingtonPost.com.

The letter was written in 1978, just months before Spungen was killed.  Vicious was traced to the murder weapon but overdosed before the trial was held.  The incident is linked to many conspiracy theories and continues to spark debate.  Their relationship inspired a biopic titled, "Sid and Nancy" released in 1986.

Despite the tragic end to their love story, Sid and Nancy have joined the ranks of iconic couples in history such as Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain and Sonny and Cher. What couples have inspired you over the years? Are there any other "real life" love stories that you think will stand out in history?
